Recently, a video surfaced online showing a British foreign teacher allegedly telling students that "Taiwan is not part of China." In response, the China Private Education Association issued an official statement on September 20, addressing the situation.
According to the statement: "In recent days, there have been online reports of a British teacher telling students that 'Taiwan is not part of China,' leading to multiple complaints from netizens. After verifying with the relevant authorities, it was confirmed that the institution involved was operating illegally without proper qualifications. The relevant app has since been taken down, and further investigations into the violations are ongoing."
On September 17, a video was posted online showing a child attending a class on the online English learning platform "Lingostar." In the video, the foreign teacher allegedly stated that Taiwan is not part of China. In response, the company released a statement asserting its firm support for the "One China" policy and confirmed that the teacher involved had been terminated and permanently barred from re-employment.According to the company's statement, the class in question occurred on the evening of September 12. The teacher, who used the platform name "Teacher Paul UK," was a newly hired probationary teacher. After the incident came to light, Lingostar immediately dismissed the teacher and declared that he would not be rehired in the future. The company further noted that all teachers are required to sign a responsibility pledge before starting work, which explicitly forbids any political statements during lessons. However, the foreign teacher deliberately violated this commitment during the class.A video shared by a blogger reveals that the teacher claimed to be from the UK and stated he had lived in Taiwan. He then repeatedly told Chinese students that "Taiwan is a country." When the student's mother attempted to correct him, the teacher interrupted, made an obscene gesture, and insulted her before abruptly leaving the lesson.Lingostar, a Singapore-based online education platform, offers live one-on-one English lessons with teachers from the UK and the US, targeting children aged 5 to 13.
