On July 24, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-41, revising part of the Labeling Standard for Food, etc. The main contents are as follows:
1. In order to prevent misleading consumers, it is clearly stipulated that ordinary foods aimed at infants and young children should be labeled as "baby food".
2. It is allowed to use the name of the raw material in the product name of the mixed edible oil (similar to the blended oil in China).
3. Clearly specify the processing of frozen food into frozen products after thawing: it is used as raw materials for frozen products after simple thawing or sub-packaging to prevent confusion between sellers.
4. The font of the label of alcohol calories should be bolded to facilitate consumer /confirm/iation.
5. Clearly specify the color price content labeling requirements of natural pigments: If there is no color price content standard in the Korean Food Additives Code, the color price shall not be labeled; If there is a standard for color price content, the color price shall be indicated.
6. When the net content of the product decreases and the price per unit net content of the product increases, the fact of the net content change should be indicated to strengthen consumers' right to know the product information and protect consumers' right to choose the product.
7. To emphasize the situation of sugar-free, sugar-free, etc., should be labeled with "sweetener" and "calorie-related information" to prevent consumers from mistakenly thinking that sweeteners are used and emphasizing that sugar-free, sugar-free, etc., products are less sweet or less caloric.
8. Specify the allowable error range between the declared value and the measured value of 3 essential fatty acids (linoleic acid, alpha-linoleic acid, EPA+DHA).
9. Revise some sentences in accordance with the Codex Alimentarius and the Code on Food Additives.
