Japan revised two food standards

On August 15, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) issued Notices 536 and 537 to revise 2 food standards. The details are respectively:

  

(1) Standard for Bread Crumbs (No. JAS1491:2024) is mainly revised to add new product labeling requirements, such as mandatory labeling information including product name, preservation method, shelf life, raw and auxiliary ingredients, food additives, country of origin, etc., and at the same time stipulates the labeling requirements for the above information, etc;

  

(2) Standard for Processed Tomato Products (No. JAS1419:2024), mainly for revising the quality and sensory standards for tomato paste and tomato puree products; and adding new provisions on the total addition of ingredients of plant origin other than tomato not exceeding 10% in solid processed tomato products, etc.

  

The above announcements are effective from the date of publication.
