The old apartment complex on Westbridge Street had been standing for decades. It wasn’t particularly fancy, nor was it in the best shape—cracked tiles in the lobby, flickering hallway lights, and an elevator that creaked with every ride. But it was home for Lena, who had lived on the tenth floor for the past three years.
She had always preferred the stairs. The elevator was too slow, too old, and too unreliable. But one stormy night, after a long shift at work, Lena was exhausted. The thought of climbing ten flights of stairs made her groan.
So, for the first time in months, she stepped into the elevator.
The doors slid shut behind her with a dull clang. She pressed the button for the tenth floor, leaned against the wall, and closed her eyes.
The elevator started moving.
Then, it didn’t stop.
Lena frowned, opening her eyes. The numbers above the door kept changing.
11… 12… 13…
Her stomach twisted. Her building only had ten floors.
The elevator kept rising. The air inside felt thicker, warmer, as if something unseen was breathing with her.
Then, with a soft ding, the elevator stopped.
The doors slid open, revealing a hallway she had never seen before.
It looked like her building—but it wasn’t. The lights were dim, the air stale, and the wallpaper was wrong—faded patterns that she didn’t recognize. The hallway stretched too far, longer than it should have been.
A single wet footprint marked the carpet just outside the elevator.
Then came the whisper.
“You finally came back.”
Lena’s blood ran cold. The voice was right next to her ear, though the elevator was empty.
She slammed the “close” button repeatedly. The doors refused to budge.
Footsteps echoed from down the hall. Slow. Deliberate. Coming toward her.
The elevator buttons flickered. The overhead light buzzed, then went out completely.
In the darkness, the whisper came again.
“You can’t leave. Not again.”
Lena’s heart pounded as the doors finally slammed shut. The elevator lurched downward, moving so fast she thought she might be free-falling.
When it stopped, she stumbled out—onto the lobby floor.
The building was normal again. Bright lights, the security guard at his desk, the same cracked tiles. The elevator behind her stood quiet and still.
Shaking, Lena turned to the guard.
“H-have you ever been to the top floor?” she asked.
The guard gave her a strange look.
“What top floor?” he said. “This building only has ten stories.”
Lena didn’t take the elevator again.
But sometimes, late at night, she heard it moving—stopping at a floor that didn’t exist.
And she swore she could hear footsteps waiting just outside the door.

它看起来像她的公寓楼道，但又不完全相同。灯光昏暗，空气中弥漫着一股陈旧的霉味，墙纸的花纹不对劲——褪色得像是几十年前的设计。最诡异的是，走廊比她记忆中要长得多，延伸向黑暗的尽头。
电梯门口的地毯上，有一个湿漉漉的脚印。
然后，她听到了低语声。
“你终于回来了。”
莉娜的血液瞬间凝固。那个声音，就在她耳边。可电梯里……只有她一个人。
她猛地按下**“关门”**键。门纹丝不动。
走廊尽头传来了脚步声。缓慢、沉稳，朝她走来。
电梯按钮的灯光闪烁不定，头顶的灯泡嗡嗡作响，突然熄灭。
漆黑中，低语再次响起——
“你不能走……不可以再逃了。”
莉娜的心狂跳，拼命拍打按钮。
电梯门猛地关上，它猛然下坠，速度快得像是自由落体。
当电梯终于停下时，门缓缓打开。
她跌跌撞撞地跑了出去，发现自己回到了大厅。
公寓里一切正常。灯光明亮，保安坐在前台，地板上的裂缝依旧在那里。身后的电梯安静地待在原地，仿佛什么都没有发生过。
莉娜颤抖着看向保安。
“你……有没有去过公寓的顶楼？”她艰难地问道。
保安皱眉，露出疑惑的神情。
“什么顶楼？”他反问道。“这栋楼只有十层啊。”
莉娜再也没有搭乘过电梯。
但有时候，深夜时分，她仍能听见它缓缓上升——停在一个不存在的楼层。
她知道，那条不属于这里的走廊，还在那里等着她。
