It started with a dream.

Every night, Mia found herself standing in the hallway outside a door she had never seen before. It was old, its paint peeling, and there was no number on it. The air around it felt heavy, and a whisper—too faint to understand—seeped from the cracks.

She would always wake up just before she opened it.

At first, she dismissed it as nothing more than a strange nightmare. But then, she saw it.

Not in a dream. In real life.

Mia had lived in her apartment for nearly two years. She knew the layout. But one evening, while heading to her bedroom, she stopped.

The door from her dreams was there.

She froze, her breath catching in her throat.

It looked exactly the same—faded paint, no number, and a whisper just barely slipping through the cracks.

Her hand trembled as she reached for the doorknob. She shouldn’t open it. She knew she shouldn’t.

But something was calling to her.

Slowly, she turned the knob.

The door swung open silently, revealing a room that shouldn’t exist.

It was identical to her own bedroom—same furniture, same decorations, same unmade bed. But it wasn’t right.

The colors were slightly off, muted, like an old photograph. The air smelled stale, like dust and something… rotten.

Then she saw the mirror.

A full-length mirror stood in the corner, its glass perfectly clean despite the dust covering everything else.

And in its reflection—

Someone was standing behind her.

Mia spun around.

Nothing was there.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. Slowly, she turned back to the mirror.

The figure was closer now.

It was her.

But not quite.

Her reflection stared at her, eyes slightly too wide, lips stretching into a too-large smile. Then, in a voice exactly like Mia’s, it whispered:

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Mia’s breath hitched. Her body screamed at her to run, but her feet were frozen.

The reflection moved, even though Mia hadn’t.

It stepped forward.

Mia finally broke free. She lunged for the door, slamming it shut behind her.

She stumbled back into her hallway, her heart pounding. The door was still there, but the whispering had stopped.

For a long moment, she just stared at it, waiting for something—anything—to happen.

Then, slowly, the doorknob turned from the other side.

Mia ran.

The next morning, the door was gone.

But that night, when she looked into her bedroom mirror—

Her reflection didn’t move.
