Spain joined URSI in the same year of its founding in 1922, and since then, the Spanish URSI community has made significant contributions to the advancement of radio science internationally. The Spanish community has been meeting annually at its National Symposium since 1980, when it started as a meeting of Commission B. The Spanish URSI Symposium is a gathering point for hundreds of Spanish researchers and their work every year, where they showcase their latest developments. Although the Symposium welcomes papers from any of the 10 URSI Commissions, Spain is particularly strong in telecommunications, radio physics, microwave and antenna engineering, and radio astronomy, among other fields. This Special Section of the journal Radio Science reflects the diversity of topics and expertise of the Spanish community through a set of papers that correspond to extended versions of works presented during the Spanish URSI Symposium held in Cuenca, Spain, from September 4th to 6th. Some of the most relevant radio science research institutions in Spain are also identified throughout this Special Collection. extensions.
