Geoscience in Action

Lisa Graumlich, AGU President

Lisa is the Mary Laird Wood Professor and Dean of the College of the Environment at the University of Washington.

Her primary research interests are in paleoecology, and the ways that ecosystems and human societies adapt to climate change, with a special focus on severe and persistent drought. She has an interdisciplinary focus and a career-long interest in global climate change, especially regarding how to best manage natural and human resources in an uncertain future.

Janice Lachance, Interim Executive Director and CEO, AGU 

Janice is an accomplished nonprofit and Cabinet-ranked government executive and leader. 

Janice is a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, Vice Chair of the Wise Giving Alliance, and currently chairs the ASAE Fellows Selection Committee. She is a Past President of ASPA - the American Society for Public Administration, has served on the ASAE Board, and was a member of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Postsecondary Education Value Commission.

AGU Publications: Where Science Leads

Kristen Averyt, Executive Vice President of Science, AGU

Averyt holds a Ph.D. in geological and environmental science from Stanford University. Kristen Averyt comes to AGU from the Executive Office of the President, Council on Environmental Quality, where she served as Director for Drought and Western Resilience. Prior to her White House role, Averyt was Senior Climate Advisor to Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. Concurrent with these appointments, Averyt was a Research Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Averyt is also a past president of the Desert Research Institute, Nevada’s premier environmental research institution. Prior to this, she served as Associate Director for Science at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. Averyt was also Deputy Director, then Director, for one of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments programs—the Western Water Assessment. Notably, she was staff scientist for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Technical Support Unit, sharing with hundreds of scientists in the agency’s 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Hang Su (苏杭), Professor, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Editor of AGU Advances.

Hang Su is Director of the State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment and Extreme Meteorology.

He serves as Editor of AGU Advances, Associate Editors of JGR Atmospheres, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Atmospheric Measurement Techniques, and Advances in Atmospheric Science (AAS). He is a Highly Cited Researcher (Web of Science, in Geoscience) and fellow of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science). He received several prestigious awards and recognitions including the Arne Richter Award from European Geosciences Union.
