As 2025 begins, we were thrilled to welcome four SCIS alumni back to campus to share their university journeys with our current Grade 12 students. Suhani (Class of 2024), now at Cornell University; Noemie (Class of 2024), at University College London (UCL); Thomas (Class of 2021), at McGill University; and Ashika (Class of 2024), at Rutgers University, provided invaluable insights into the transition from high school to higher education.
During the visit, they reflected on how SCIS equipped them for the challenges of higher education and personal growth. From the rigorous academic demands of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to the supportive, globally minded community, each alumnus highlighted the lasting impact of their time at SCIS on their university journeys.
Suhani emphasized the crucial role of the SCIS Community during challenging moments, particularly the university application process. She recalled how group projects and school trips encouraged collaboration, highlighting that the supportive environment at SCIS helped make stressful situations more manageable.
Ashika shared how she approached her university decision by focusing on the programs that resonated with her interests and values. "I chose a program that offered opportunities I was passionate about," she said, emphasizing how important it was for her to find an academic path that matched her aspirations for personal and academic growth.Noemie reflected on how SCIS helped her embrace diversity, a value that continues to shape her university life. She shared, "One of my favorite memories at SCIS was definitely the UN Day. It was such a special experience to see everyone express and showcase their cultures, which really shaped my perception of diversity and understanding different cultures."Thomas shared that his most memorable moments at SCIS were centered around building connections, whether on China trips with his grade or playing basketball with friends during lunchtime. "I really miss the team spirit and the friendships formed during activities like these, which made my SCIS experience so special," he reflected.
The visit reinforced the importance of the holistic education SCIS offers—equipping students not only with academic skills but also with the ability to build relationships and navigate new environments. The alumni encouraged current students to embrace these opportunities, stressing that building a strong support network and staying open-minded are key to success in university and beyond. We are deeply grateful to our alumni for returning to SCIS and sharing their insights with the next generation. Their stories remind us of the profound impact that SCIS has in shaping well-rounded, globally-minded individuals ready to take on the world. As these students continue their journeys, they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills gained at SCIS but also the spirit of community and resilience that defines our school.SCIS.
