On December 8, a social media post alleging sexual misconduct by a foreign student from Shanxi University garnered widespread attention. The post claimed that the student touched a woman inappropriately in a public place, with surveillance footage capturing the incident. Following a police report filed by the victim, the foreign student was administratively detained.

When contacted on December 9, Shanxi University’s Publicity Department confirmed that they are handling the matter. The university assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on police findings and internal procedures.

According to the victim’s social media post, she accused the foreign student of touching her without consent and claimed the surveillance footage provided clear evidence. However, the student reportedly denied the allegations. The victim stated that the student was detained for five days and shared a notice issued by the local police in Taiyuan, confirming the case.

Later that day, reporters from the New Yellow River attempted to contact the victim. By the time of publication, the victim declined to provide further details and had deleted her earlier posts, including text and images related to the incident.

An investigation revealed that the student in question is a third-year international student at Shanxi University. According to the university's International Education Exchange Office, which oversees foreign students, the incident occurred in a bar where the student allegedly touched the victim inappropriately. The university is drafting disciplinary measures against the student and emphasized its commitment to addressing the matter seriously.

Shanxi University reiterated its dedication to ensuring campus safety and dealing with any violations of conduct by its students, including international students. "We are currently addressing the situation," a university spokesperson told reporters.

The incident has sparked heated discussions online, with netizens expressing concerns about campus safety and the behavior of foreign students in China. Some criticized the student’s actions, while others questioned the university's management practices and called for stricter policies to prevent such incidents in the future.
