The final race is also the new race

It turns out that we (the Chaoyang Rowing Team members) were not the only ones who have been practising rowing really hard all this summer.
Since my dominant race in July, I have been concentrating wholeheartedly on rowing practise for the race in late August. Although me and my shipmate won another gold in 2,000-meter race and I won another gold in 2,000-meter single, plus 2 silvers in the 1,000-meter races, this isn’t the thing I think means the most to me this time.
For this time, I also got a Grade-Two National Athlete Certificate. Also, I learnt many more new skills from the training. For example, I now know how to use my time better. Everyday, training started from 4:30 am and lasted all the way untill 4:30 pm, so I didn’t actually have much time to do my homework and reading. Since my school work must be finished, I started to squeeze time out of my regular rest time, in order to finish my homework. Such experience did not only teach me how to use my time more efficiently, but also helped me to practise self-discipline, learned how to finish the amount of work that I’m supposed to do at a faster speed with higher accuracy. To be honest, it’s not easy at all.
Additionally, the training totally changed my body. I used to be a person who hated sports, and wanted to lie down straight everyday; a guy whose arm is skinnier than an adult’s wrist and a student who has never been chosen for sport competitions. But after the training, I found myself loving and enjoying sports as fun, becoming a person who is always chosen to do sports. The scores I got made people amazed, they wonder how could such a sea change happens on a middle-school student in such a short time. Most importantly, I harvested great confidence from this.
The training and race also greatly changed my perception of time. When I was little, I thought a few seconds weren’t anything of a big deal, but now I realized that even a few milliseconds are enough to make a huge difference. For instance, my 1,000-meter double lost to the champion only 0.4 seconds! Now I find that every second is precious and could make a difference, and this is how people are divided into winners and non-winners.
That’s all for my final race in August, including my 40 days of hard training, which I think is really important for me and my life ahead.
