CPE&雅思原题：Some people believe that spending money on developing technology for space exploration is unjustifiable; there are more beneficial ways to spend money. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
TOEFL 原题：
Over the last few decades, with Armstrong’s successful landing on the moon, people have never stopped exploring this mysterious field, pouring millions or even billions into outer space. Some people doubt the justifiability of this issue, but I hold the opinion that this effort makes sense.
Undoubtedly, the government’s budget is limited and ordinary people are more interested in public facilities such as water supply system and education, which have a direct impact on their living standards. For instance, good sanitation and clean water can improve people's physical health and reduce diseases, while schools offer an appropriate atmosphere to popularize knowledge and improve youngsters’ job prospects. These improvements seem to be more essential for most city dwellers.
However, skeptics of space research take it for granted that other areas including public facilities deserve more public money, ignoring the human endeavor made in space exploration and its substantial benefits, some of which are likely to be invisible in a short term. The fact is that several technological advances have been applied widely in people’s daily life and exert an indispensable influence owing to the development of space exploration. People are accustomed to viewing weather forecast before going out and using the navigation systems on the cell phone to find the best way to unfamiliar destinations. What’s more, the problem of population explosion has become increasingly severe; therefore, it is understandable to look for other suitable alternatives with larger space to hold more people via investing in the space research.
In conclusion, although some other fields affect citizens’ lives more directly, it is justified for governments to allocate certain amount of money to explore the space especially if their budget is not tight.
