At ISA Wuhan International School, there is a girl named Emma whose story is akin to a melodious violin piece. Her journey is filled with deep passion for the arts and relentless exploration of interests.

在武汉爱莎国际学校的校园里,有一位名叫Emma的女孩,她的故事如同一首悠扬的小提琴曲,旋律中既有对艺术的深情挚爱,也有对多元兴趣的不懈探索。

When Emma completed her online interview, the Royal Northern College of Music formally extended an offer to her, followed closely by the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, which issued a offer without the need for an interview. The Head of Strings at both the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama were surprised by Emma's talent and confidence during the interviews. It not only signifies high regard for Emma's musical talent but also serves as the best reward for her efforts.

当Emma结束线上面试时,英国皇家北方音乐学院正式向她抛出了橄榄枝,随后圣三一拉邦音乐舞蹈学院也紧随其后,无需面试直接发出录取。皇家伯明翰音乐学院和皇家威尔士音乐戏剧学院的弦乐首席和负责人都对Emma在面试中的展示出来的才华和自信赞叹不已。这不仅是对Emma音乐才华的高度认可,更是对她不懈努力的最好回报。


From the moment she first touched a violin to now preparing to step into the doors of the world-renowned music institution, how did Emma compose such a magnificent symphony?

  初识小提琴

  The Beginning of Music Journey 

Emma's musical journey did not start with the violin but with Guzheng. A chance encounter allowed her to witness the passionate, sweet, and delicate performance of an internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso, Sheng Zhongguo, which captivated her with the melodious and romantic sound of the violin. From that moment on, the violin became an indispensable part of her life.

Emma的音乐之旅并非以小提琴为起点,而是始于古筝。一个偶然的机会,当她第一次欣赏到享誉国际的小提琴大师盛中国那热情奔放又甜美细腻的演奏,听到小提琴那悠扬、浪漫的声音时,便被深深吸引。从此,小提琴成为了她生活中不可或缺的一部分。


Over years of learning and practice, Emma’s passion for violin extends beyond personal performance. She sought higher artistic pursuits through interaction and idea exchange with international-level orchestras and learning from world-class musicians. She participated in the international orchestral camp at Chicago Symphony Hall under the guidance of David Chan, concertmaster of the MET Orchestra and violin professor at The Juilliard School. She not only improved her performance skills but also realized that music is not just a form of individual expression, but an art form collaboratively created with others. Since then, her bow and violin became her ‘key’ to exploring the world.

在年复一年的学习和练习中,Emma对小提琴的热爱早已超越了个人表演的范畴与国际级乐团互动交流、向世界顶尖演奏家学习更是她向音乐艺术更高的追求。在参与由大都会歌剧院首席小提琴手兼朱莉亚音乐学院小提琴教授David Chan亲自指导的芝加哥交响音乐厅国际管弦乐营的过程中,Emma不仅提升了演奏技巧,也让她意识到音乐不仅是个人的表达,更是与他人共同创造的艺术形式。而一弓一琴,也成为了她日后探索世界的“钥匙”。

 Interdisciplinary Connections with Music 

In 2023, Emma moved to ISA Wuhan International School and began the more systematic music studies. At ISA Wuhan, she integrated music in her learning and daily life and gradually finding larger stages for herself.

2023年,进入武汉爱莎国际学校的Emma,开始了更为系统的音乐学习,也是在这里,她一次次拿起琴弓,将音乐交织在学习和生活中,逐渐找到更大的舞台。

The multicultural international campus environment and the Holistic Education concept that encourages individualized development provided Emma with abundant learning resources and opportunities to showcase her talents. ISA also fostered innovative learning approach, transforming music lessons into comprehensive learning experiences by encourage students to apply diverse problem-solving strategies across both instrumental and academic domains, cultivating transferable cognitive skills.

多元融合的国际校园环境和鼓励个性化发展的全人教育理念,为Emma提供了丰富的学习资源和展示机会。爱莎也鼓励创新的学习方法,将音乐课转化为全面的学习体验,通过引导学生在乐器和学术领域应用多样化的问题解决策略,培养可迁移的认知技能。

At ISA, Emma immersed herself fully in the world of the violin. Ideas that had only fleetingly crossed her mind about transcending traditional boundaries between arts and academia were realized during her time in ISA. She freely sought innovative interdisciplinary connections, linking her interests in violin, music production, film music, and psychology. Breaking down disciplinary barriers, she found novel ways to engage and understand the world.

在这里,Emma不仅可以尽情地沉浸在小提琴的世界中,而原本只闪现过在她脑海中的超越传统艺术与学术界限的想法,也在这里逐一实现。她自由地寻求创新的跨学科联系,将她在小提琴演奏、音乐制作、电影音乐和心理学方面的不同兴趣联结起来,打破学科界限,找到了探索与理解世界的新方式。

Through relentless daily practice and numerous performances, Emma began to ponder the effect that human psychology will have on the expression of music. Emma combined psychology with her expertise in music to complete an individual research paper on 'How to Cope with Performance Anxiety'. This cross-disciplinary exploration made her musical world even richer and more colorful.

日常不间断的练习和多次登台演出的经历,让Emma也逐渐思考“人的心理对于表达音乐情感会带来什么影响”,对心理也学充满兴趣的Emma,也将自己擅长的音乐领域与之结合,完成了“分析表演焦虑”的心理学研究论文,这种跨领域的探索让Emma的音乐世界更加丰富多彩。

The interdisciplinary approach demonstrated how music training could enhance overall academic performance and analytical thinking skills. Emma achieved excellent results in her academic courses, including an AP Psychology score of 5 and an AP Music Theory score of 4, earning a full music scholarship. Additionally, she pass the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music G5 Music Theory exam with a distinction (70/75).

跨学科的学习方法,展示了音乐训练如何能够提升整体学术表现和分析思维能力。Emma在学术课程中也取得了AP心理5分、AP音乐伦理4分的优异成绩,并获得学校的全额音乐奖学金。此外,她还以70高分(满分75)通过英国皇家音乐学院联合委员会G5音乐理论考试

  Beyond the Strings 

When Emma performed as a G10 music band member in the Music Barista series, her teachers and classmates were pleasantly surprised to discover that violin was just one of her talents. In fact, she has many talents and interests, such as keyboard, guzheng (level 4), figure skater (national level 2), and years of experience in tennis, cricket, and Latin dance. These experiences not only enriched her life but also provided a constant source of inspiration for her music.

在G10期间,当Emma以乐队键盘手的身份在舞台上亮相时,老师和同学们都惊喜的发现,原来小提琴演奏者只是Emma“多重分身“中的一个。事实上,她是一名多才多艺的宝藏女孩,掌握键盘、古筝四级、花样滑冰国家二级,还有多年的网球、板球和拉丁舞经验,技能叠满。这些经历不仅丰富了她的生活,也为她的音乐创作提供了源源不断的灵感。

Emma was also an excellent student with all-round development. She was everywhere in various extracurricular activities on campus. She was the leader of ISA Wuhan String Orchestra, and serving as a patient assistant in the elementary violin class and the G11 music theory class. She was also the core member behind the scenes in numerous music events. Whether as a volunteer for the Wuhan Blind School Music Charity Project or performing alongside internationally renowned musicians, Emma used her knowledge and thoughts to interpret the charm of music and convey its power.

Emma也是一个全面发展的优秀学生。她在各类课外活动中的身影无处不在:加入学校弦乐团任首席、担任小学小提琴班和G11音乐理论班的耐心助教老师、参与多项音乐活动成为幕后的核心成员……无论是在盲童学校的音乐慈善项目中传递爱心,还是与国际知名音乐家同台演出,Emma都以她的所学所思解析音乐的魅力、传递音乐的力量。

Emma was also an innovator constantly expanding her horizons. Over the past year, with the support of the school and her teacher, she attended concerts regularly which were performed by the world-famous violinists Ning Feng and the renowned European musicians, the Capucon Brothers. Master-class performances left Emma in awe. She resonated deeply with the emotions in the music. She also toured with musicians from the University of Michigan, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Berklee College of Music, fully immersing herself in music creation and performance. For Emma, attending master performances and exchanging ideas with outstanding musicians was a way of intensive musical training. Her expressiveness and exploration of music was further enriched.

Emma更是不断拓展自己视野的创新者。在过去的一年中,在学校和老师的支持下,她多次参加了世界著名小提琴家宁峰和欧洲乐坛大名鼎鼎的演奏家“卡普松兄弟”的音乐会。大师级的演奏令她感叹,不禁与乐曲中的情感产生共鸣,更切身感受到了世界级演奏家无与伦比的艺术造诣。她还与密歇根大学、欧柏林音乐学院和伯克利音乐学院的音乐家一起巡演,全身心投入音乐创作与表演中。对于Emma而言,亲临大师演奏现场、与优秀的音乐家交流也是一种深入学习的方式,这些难得的学习经历也能促使自己演奏表现力和深度的提升,不断探索音乐的深层次内。
