12月14日,武汉爱莎学校年度大型社区庆典活动“爱莎日”圆满落下帷幕,超3000名师生、家长和各界代表一起用公益的力量,点亮了这片理想教育的应许之地。
当“爱莎日”的脚步悄然迈入第三个年头,来自武汉爱莎文华小学G3年级Harry同学的妈妈,唐钧女士,正第一次承担起公益摊位“大管家”的角色。一整个年级,4大摊位,超20组家庭,共14种参展品类,义卖善款更是高达4252元,让唐妈妈组织的文华小学G3摊位,成功夺得爱莎日当天的“义卖冠军”。

On 14th December, ISA Wuhan School's annual community celebration ‘ISA Festival’ came to a successful conclusion, with more than 3,000 teachers, students, parents and representatives from all walks of life using the power of public welfare to light up this promised land of ideal education.
As ‘ISA Festival’ entered its third year, Ms. Jun Tang, a mother of G3 Harry from ISA Wenhua Wuhan Primary School, took on the role of the charity stall manager for the first time. With a whole grade, 4 stalls, over 20 groups of families, 14 categories of exhibits, and a total of 4,252 RMB from the charity sales, the ISA Wenhua Wuhan Primary School G3 stall organised by Tang's mother successfully won the ‘Champion of Charity Sales’ on the day.

作为每年“爱莎日”爱心集市的踊跃参与者,唐妈妈做公益的动力却最早源自于她的孩子Harry。“我的儿子Harry是从一年级就来到武汉爱莎学校的,从入校起,Harry就会经常参与学校组织的各种志愿者活动、公益帮扶或者献爱心活动,通过接触不同社会圈层的人群,Harry的眼界得到了极大的拓宽,他不仅积极锻炼了自己的同理心,更懂得了责任与担当。每一次的活动,都像是为他打开了一扇窗,让他深刻体会到了帮助他人所带来的喜悦与满足。”

As an enthusiastic participant in the annual ‘ISA Festival’ charity bazaar, Ms. Tang’s motivation to do charity work originated from her child, Harry, who came to ISA Wuhan School in the first grade. Since he joined the school, Harry has often participated in various volunteer activities, public assistance or charity activities organised by the school. Through contacting people from different walks of life, Harry's horizon has been greatly broadened, and he has not only actively exercised his empathy, but also learned to be responsible and accountable. Every activity is like opening a window for him to deeply experience the joy and satisfaction of helping others.’

With her child's encouragement and dedication, Ms. Tang has also started her own charity stall. In September this year, the G3 parents came to the city centre to celebrate the birthday of Harry's classmates with a stall, with all the money raised going to support the school's charity programme. It was this special birthday celebration that inspired Ms. Tang to take part in the subsequent ‘ISA Festival’ charity bazaar.

“在我们文华小学G3年级,家长们对于陪伴孩子,关注教育成长的理念也很统一,这让我们不论是组织参与公益市集,还是策划校园活动,都能全身心的投入其中。在今年爱莎日,所有爱莎家长,群策群力,团结配合,共同呈现了这场精彩纷呈的活动!”
唐妈妈回忆道,一位在“爱莎日”负责制作果蔬汁的爸爸,不间断地切了8个小时的橙子,双手因长时间劳作而微微颤抖,但每当看到孩子们兴奋地捧着新鲜榨出的橙汁,脸上洋溢出的满足与快乐,他的眼神中便充满了无尽的幸福与满足。还有一位负责制作棉花糖的妈妈,手臂因连续的转动制糖机而酸痛不已,尽管汗水浸湿了衣背,但家长们的心中都充满了参与公益活动的甜蜜与骄傲。

Ms. Tang recalled that a father who was responsible for making fruit and vegetable juice on ISA Festival cut oranges for eight hours without stopping, his hands trembling slightly from the long hours of labour, but whenever he saw his children excitedly holding freshly squeezed orange juice, his face overflowing with satisfaction and joy. There was also a mother who was responsible for making cotton candy, her arms were sore from continuously turning the candy-making machine. Although the back of her shirt was soaked with sweat, the parents' hearts were filled with the sweetness and pride of participating in the public welfare activities.

“我们家长们平时都很鼓励孩子能够拥有更多自主权和参与度,本次爱莎日的所有参展品类,大部分都是根据孩子们的建议和主张,悉心张罗出来的。” 唐妈妈说。
“在筹备过程中,我们家长和孩子们齐心协力,从市场调研到产品设计,从成本预算到营销策略,每一步都充满了讨论与合作。这样的经历不仅锻炼了孩子们的自主能力,也让他们学会了如何倾听他人意见,如何在团队中发挥自己的优势。更重要的是,拉近了家校之间、亲子之间的心灵距离,也让每年年末的‘爱莎日’成为每一位爱莎社区成员的‘春晚’,成为家人之间的团聚。”

"Our parents usually encourage our children to be able to have more autonomy and participation, and most of all the categories exhibited in this ISA Festival were carefully organised based on the suggestions and advocacies of our children. During the preparation process, we parents and children worked together, from market research to product design, from cost budgeting to marketing strategy, every step was full of discussion and co-operation. Such an experience not only exercised the children's autonomy, but also taught them how to listen to others' opinions and how to play to their strengths in a team. More importantly, it has brought home-school and parent-child relationships closer together, and has made the ‘ISA Festival’ at the end of each year a ‘Spring Festival Gala’ for every member of the ISA community and a family reunion." Ms. Tang said.

“爱莎日”不仅是践行公益慈善理念的盛会,更是学校多国文化精彩交融的舞台。在这一天,文华小学G3年级不仅投身于各类商品的义卖,还别出心裁地展示了一项蕴含深厚中国文化底蕴的国家级非物质文化遗产——汉绣。学生们不仅展示了精美的汉绣作品,还通过讲解和互动,向更多人传递了汉绣的文化内涵和工艺特点。

“ISA Festival” is not only an event to practice the concept of charity, but also a stage for the school's multinational culture. On this day, our G3 kids not only participated in the charity sale of various goods but also displayed a national intangible cultural heritage - Han embroidery, which is deeply embedded in Chinese culture. The students not only displayed exquisite Han embroidery works but also conveyed the cultural connotation and craftsmanship characteristics of Han embroidery to a wider audience through explanation and interaction.

“我们G3家长中刚好有一位妈妈也非常热爱汉绣工艺,她邀请了武汉市或湖北省汉绣协会的副会长亲临学校,为G3年级的小朋友们提前进行了汉绣文化的体验活动。当我看见Harry亲手拿起绣花针,尝试绣制具有楚文化特色的图案,还回来和我滔滔不绝的分享自己体验后的感受和汉绣知识时,我知道,原来学校一直强调的内驱力,从来就是从热爱上一件事开始形成的!”

“As promised by Principal Hong Yang, the school is committed to nurturing new-age youths who will stand on the Chinese stage and tell the Chinese story, and during Harry's development, I have personally felt ISA’s fulfilment of this commitment, and it is also a good way to condense the power of the parent community.” Ms. Tang said.
“One of our G3 parents happens to have a mum who is also very passionate about the craft of Chinese embroidery, and she invited the Vice President of the Wuhan or Hubei Chinese Embroidery Association to come to the school to have an early experience of the Chinese embroidery culture for the G3 children. When I saw Harry picking up an embroidery needle and trying his hand at embroidering patterns featuring Chu culture and coming back to me to share his feelings and knowledge of Chinese embroidery after the experience, I knew that the internal drive that the school has emphasized always starts with your passion.”

Ms. Tang shared with us that before coming to ISA, her child rarely had friends of a similar age during the weekend holidays, and that the enormous pressure of school and tuition had left her ‘used to being alone’ and ‘shy and lacking in self-confidence’, The enormous pressure of school work and tuition training has made ‘habitual loneliness’, ‘shyness and lack of self-confidence’, and ‘lack of initiative’ become the character traits of most Chinese children from primary school onwards.

The excellent 1:4 teacher-student ratio, small class sizes, and immersive English language environment at ISA School have always enabled Harry's talents and strengths to receive the full attention of his teachers. His deep passion for Chinese history has enabled him to discuss Ming history and write reflective essays with his foreign teachers in fluent English; his love of reading has led him to fill his backpack, room, and desk with books borrowed from the school library; and his obsession with programming has not only helped him win science fiction tournaments, but has also given him the idea of creating a video game.

Recently, Harry has been immersed in books about the development history of the Hong Kong subway. Skillfully, he applied the knowledge he learned in the programming class to practice and independently designed an exploration map in the Minecraft World Simulator game. A few days ago, he excitedly shared with Mrs. Tang that many foreign children had already embarked on adventure trips on his map!
"Regarding the implementation of the ten IB learner profile goals for holistic education, I have witnessed the profound influence of the school on Harry. He is diligent in thinking, good at communicating with teachers and students from all over the world in multiple languages, brave in exploring the unknown, and independent and insightful in learning. Faced with heavy schoolwork, international competitions and the development of arts and sports, Harry has already developed the habit of managing his time efficiently, which has greatly alleviated my concerns about his future college life. After all, which ISA student isn't a master of time management!" said Mrs. Tang with a smile.
