The End-to-End (E2E) architecture has emerged in recent years as a novel and promising paradigm for autonomous driving. The robustness and safety issue in complex real-world environments pose significant challenge to the development of E2E autonomous driving system. The quantitative measure of confidence of intermediate features in E2E perception and prediction is missing, and the propagation of uncertainties among the modules of E2E framework requires explicit analysis. In addition, learning-based control techniques (e,g, Reinforcement Learning) lack provable safety guarantee. This talk presents the design of safe and robust E2E perception and control autonomous driving systems, with topics including feature uncertainty-aware E2E perception and prediction framework, reinforcement learning-enable control with runtime safety assurance, as well as implementations in actual autonomous vehicles.
Dachuan Li received his Ph.D. in control science and engineering from Tsinghua University. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Research Institute of Trustworthy Autonomous Systems, Southern University of Science and Technology, China. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at California PATH, University of California, Berkeley from 2016 to 2018. His research interests include autonomous driving vehicles, trustworthy autonomous systems, intelligent decision-making and motion planning. He has pulished over 30 papers, including two best papers of IEEE ISPA and KSEM. He is the PI of over 10 key research projects, including NSFC General Program, Guangdong International S&T Corporation Program, and Shenzhen Key Science and Technology Program.
