多采用四合院的形式，有正房、厢房等，外观上延续传统的青砖灰瓦、木格窗，门口可能有高峻的马头墙。马头墙以其昂首朝天的姿态主宰着中式民居的气韵与风华，它是望族宅第的标志，展现出民族的脊梁；影壁（照壁）也是常见元素，起着烘云托月、画龙点睛的作用，上面常镶刻着吉辞颂语；朱门则彰显着贵族邸第的庄重，巨大的门钉浓缩了中国传统文化；天井是民居的点睛之笔，接天通地，聚气藏风，体现了“天人合一”、“和谐共生”的理念。

Mostly in the form of a quadrangle courtyard with main rooms and side rooms. The exterior continues the traditional style of grey bricks, grey tiles and wooden lattice windows, and there may be tall horse-head walls at the entrance. The horse-head walls, with their heads held high towards the sky, dominate the charm and grace of Chinese folk houses. They are the symbol of noble residences and show the backbone of the nation. The screen wall (also known as the reflecting wall) is also a common element, playing the role of highlighting and emphasizing. It is often engraved with auspicious words and praises. The vermilion door highlights the solemnity of noble residences, and the huge door studs condense traditional Chinese culture. The patio is the finishing touch of the residence, connecting the heaven and the earth, gathering qi and blocking the wind, embodying the concepts of "harmony between man and nature" and "harmonious coexistence".

一般有四四方方的庭院，人们可以在庭院中感受大自然，也能感受到浓厚的历史气息。有的还会设置回廊、月洞门等，增加庭院的层次感和美感。例如北京的四合院，庭院围在其中，人们能呼吸自然味道，感受历史气息。

There is usually a square courtyard where people can feel nature and the thick historical atmosphere. Some may also set up corridors, moon-shaped gates, etc., to increase the layering and aesthetic feeling of the courtyard. For example, in the quadrangle courtyards in Beijing, surrounded by courtyards, people can breathe the natural flavor and feel the historical atmosphere.

室内色彩以黑白灰为主，局部点缀红、绿、黄等色彩，使空间不显沉闷。家具多根据当地款式简化设计，兼具实用与美观。例如，客厅里可能摆放着古色古香的实木家具，如经典的传统中式官帽椅，其曲直相通、方中带圆，木料粗细变化讲究，搭配书法作品，充满书香文化气质；餐厅的家具朴实无华，注重生活气息；茶室区域的桌椅可能设计成精致的月琴造型，线条优美简练；书房中可能会有明式圈椅，其靠背和扶手由一整条圆润流畅的曲线组成，隐含着中式哲学中天圆地方的深意，是明式家具中具文化品味的代表作。此外，还可能会有开放式的红木博古架，采用榫卯工艺，不用一颗螺丝钉，结实耐看，其置物区每层形状各异，产生不规则美，便于观赏架上摆放的器皿。

The interior colors are mainly black, white and grey, with local touches of red, green, yellow and other colors to make the space less dull. The furniture is mostly simplified based on local styles, combining practicality and beauty. There may be a Ming-style round-backed armchair in the study, whose backrest and armrests are composed of a whole smooth and round curve, implicitly expressing the meaning of "round heaven and square earth" in Chinese philosophy and being a representative of cultural taste among Ming-style furniture. In addition, there may also be an open redwood curio shelf, using mortise and tenon technology without a single screw. It is sturdy and good-looking. The storage areas on each layer have different shapes, creating an irregular beauty and facilitating the viewing of the utensils placed on the shelf.

会运用木头、石头、竹子等元素，与阳光、植物等相互映衬，形成如诗如画的光影效果，犹如一幅水墨画。例如一些古宅周围有古樟树环绕，地面上种植着中国本土的绿色植物，让人仿佛置身于古代的自然环境之中。

Elements such as wood, stone and bamboo are used, contrasting with sunlight and plants to form a picturesque light and shadow effect, like an ink painting. For example, some ancient houses are surrounded by ancient camphor trees and green plants native to China are planted on the ground, making people feel as if they are in the ancient natural environment.

通过各种细节传递出中国传统文化的韵味，比如在影壁、门窗、家具上雕刻着精美的砖雕、石雕、木雕、竹雕等“徽雕四绝”，图案多为亭台楼榭、树本山水、人物走兽、花鸟虫鱼等，方寸之间呈现精妙技艺，美感无限。这些雕刻作品不仅具有装饰性，还蕴含着吉祥、美好的寓意，体现了中国人对生活的期望和祝福。

The charm of traditional Chinese culture is conveyed through various details. For instance, on the screen walls, doors and windows, and furniture are exquisitely engraved brick carvings, stone carvings, wood carvings and bamboo carvings, known as the "Four Wonders of Huizhou Carvings". The patterns are mostly pavilions, towers, mountains and waters, figures, animals, flowers, birds and fish, etc. Exquisite craftsmanship is presented within a small space, with unlimited beauty.
