PhD Students in Economics

The PhD education and thesis work in economics are closely linked to the theme of Equality of Opportunity and Big Data Analysis.
High-quality and exciting research is conducted here with both national and international recognition, primarily in labor economics, public economics, microeconomics, and economic history. The research topics include intergenerational mobility, education, health, environment, policy evaluation, integration, and discrimination. The course program is conducted in collaboration with several other universities in Sweden. It includes first year courses in mathematics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, as well as elective second year courses related to the thesis work.
We offer supervision of high international quality and a stimulating intellectual work environment. The program prepares graduates for careers in academia, qualified roles in government departments and agencies, international organizations, and the private sector.
General Eligibility
General eligibility is fulfilled by those who:
- Have completed a degree at an advanced level in economics.
- Have completed at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level, or have acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside of Sweden.
Specific Eligibility
Specific eligibility is fulfilled by those who:
- Have at least 90 credits in economics or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way within or outside Sweden.- Demonstrate good proficiency in English.
