AI音乐大行其道下,他们为何仍坚持实体创作 // 与25位音乐人对话:Less is more

当下,以Suno为代表的AIGC音乐以令人赞叹的完成度与易用性,引发了内容行业的巨大震动。毫无疑问,在不久的将来,它将以指数级领先的交付效率与结果达成率,对内容行业带来彻底的颠覆,成为未来音乐内容结构的一大板块。
但与此同时,当我们目光聚焦到音乐人群体之中,却发现一种去智能化、去自动化、去数字化的风潮却在逆流而上。他们坚持使用实体设备(如合成器、鼓机、效果器等)创作与生产内容,并以Live Set(现场电子演奏)的形式,将即兴产生的声音传播到舞台之上。这种风潮称为 DAWless (无宿主主义)。
为何他们没有追逐风潮,反而选择了一个更少人关注的内容生产路径?为此,我们邀请了25位来自不同国家与地区的音乐人、艺术家、从业者,从各自的角度共同分享他们所认知的“less is more…
At present, AIGC music represented by Suno has caused a huge shock in the content industry with its amazing completion and ease of use. There is no doubt that in the near future, it will completely subvert the content industry with its exponentially leading delivery efficiency and result achievement rate, and become a major part of the future music content structure.
But at the same time, when we focus on the group of musicians, we find that a trend of de-intelligence, de-automation, and de-digitization is going against the current. They insist on using physical equipment (such as synthesizers, drum machines, effects, etc.) to create and produce content, and spread the improvised sounds to the stage in the form of Live Set (live electronic performance). This trend is called DAWless (hostlessism).
Why didn't they follow the trend and instead chose a content production path that less people paid attention to? To this end, we invited 25 musicians, artists, and practitioners from different countries and regions to share their perceptions of "less is more..." from their own perspectives.

我们选择每一个合成器,选择每一个控制器,让自己更加舒适的去创造音乐。这是一种关于媒介和创作的态度,我们可以选择用数码相机拍照,也可以使用胶卷拍照,我们可以选择用唱片DJ也可以放数字媒体。但是就模拟媒介我们能够摸得到,就像唱片上面音乐的纹路一样,我们的身体能够更多的感受到这个音乐本身,或者是我们创作的这个媒介本身,我们与媒介更近,我们能有更多的感受,我们能更好的有感而发。我们在创作中就会更加自由。不管是花多少钱去买一个合成器也好,还是花多少钱去买一个插件也好,我们都是在追求我们自己要的声音,我们自己要的审美。为了让自己更快的接近我们要的这个审美,我们选择用更加原始的东西,让身体去记住这些东西的变化,而不是借助科技程序,慢慢的我们身体会就会积累很多的技术和一些习惯。这些习惯会注入我们的脑中,变成我们演出的一部分,或者我们创作的一部分。我们时时刻刻在磨练自己的身体和技术,而不是利用科技去完成这些事情,就像做锻炼一样。一旦习惯了这种原始创作的流程的话,我们会发现有很多的细节,是我们用数字音频工作站上感受不到的。这个不光光是在声音制作方面,哪怕是在暗房里,或者是在DJ的时候放唱片,放唱片对拍会比用数字对拍难很多。但是我们的身体和耳朵会一遍一遍的去练习。这样的话,我们不管什么时候去演出去表达自己都是自己的习惯。这些东西会融入到我们的生活和血液里边,而不是花了很长时间通过一些科技的拼贴去把它变得完美。我们需要的当下最好的表达自我,而不是通过时间的堆砌去把东西变得好看。这些东西是我自己的身体。我的身体便是我的作品。

We choose every synthesizer and every controller to make it more comfortable for us to create music. This is an attitude about media and creation. We can choose to take pictures with a digital camera or film. We can choose to use a record DJ or play digital media. But with analog media, we can touch it, just like the texture of music on a record. Our bodies can feel more of the music itself, or the medium we create. We are closer to the medium, and we can have a better understanding of it. The more we feel, the better we can express our feelings. We will have more freedom in creation. No matter how much money we spend to buy a synthesizer or how much money we spend to buy a plug-in, we are all pursuing the sound we want and the aesthetic we want. In order to get ourselves closer to the aesthetic we want faster, we choose to use more primitive things and let the body remember the changes in these things instead of relying on technological programs. Slowly, our bodies will accumulate a lot of technology and some habits. These habits become implanted in our brains and become part of our performance, or part of our creations. We are honing our bodies and skills all the time, rather than using technology to do these things like exercise. Once we get used to this original creation process, we will find that there are many details that we cannot feel on a digital audio workstation. This is not only in terms of sound production, even in the darkroom or playing records while DJing, playing records and matching beats is much more difficult than using digital beat matching. But our bodies and ears practice it over and over again. In this case, it is our habit to express ourselves whenever we go to a performance. These things will be integrated into our lives and blood, rather than spending a long time making it perfect through some technological collage. We need to express ourselves best at the moment, rather than making things look good through time. These things are my own body. My body is my work.

I’m interested in discovering music. Not trying to control every detail of it. Dawless lets that happen in ways that are very different from working with a computer.
