——China-Egypt Thematic Cultural Exhibition: "From the Nile River to the Huangpu River"





    前言

这是一场两大古老文明的对话,这是一场古代文明与现代文明的碰撞,多元文化交织闪现出耀眼光芒。从尼罗河到黄浦江畔,从文化多元、古今交融的“古埃及文明大展”到中西融合、兼容并包的协和教科BC课程,跟着SUIS的学生们一起来加入一场精心的策展。

This is a dialogue between two ancient civilizations.

Let us follow the Jiaoke BC students and join a carefully curated exhibition.



在非洲东北部,尼罗河静静地流淌。千百年来,它滋养繁衍了两岸的数代埃及百姓,也见证了世界上最伟大的古代文明之一的诞生与消亡。古老的中国文明源远流长,他们在广袤的土地上留下了丰富多彩的物质文化遗产。近代中国,百年风云变幻。而今的上海滩的雍容华贵,镌刻着百年历史风云,交织着大气与传奇的色彩。

In northeastern Africa, the Nile River flows. For thousands of years, it has nourished and nurtured generations of Egyptians on both banks and witnessed the birth and demise of one of the world's greatest ancient civilizations. The Ancient Chinese civilization has its long history, which left a profusion of material cultural heritages on this vast land. By far, China has experienced a hundred years of change. The delicacy of today's Shanghai Bund is engraved by a hundred years of transition, intertwined with its legendary history and atmosphere.




恰逢中埃建立“全面战略合作伙伴关系”10周年,上海博物馆举办了“金字塔之巅——古埃及文明大展”,BC课程的师生们参展并聆听了讲解员的精彩讲解。博物馆实践之后,学生们以小组为单位,寻找兴趣点,以“选题报告——展品制作——文化讲解”为任务主线,共同策展,于11.22日举办“跨越时空的对话——‘从尼罗河到黄浦江畔’中埃文化主题展”。

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Shanghai Museum held an Ancient Egypt Exhibition - “On Top of the Pyramid”, in which teachers and students of the BC course took part and listened to the wonderful introduction of the museum guide. After the exhibition, the students worked in groups together to write what they found interesting about the exhibition by following the guideline of “topic report - exhibit production - cultural introduction.” As a result, students were invited to organize the event of “On Top of the Pyramids - Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition” on November 22nd. Together they came up with the idea of “Dialogue Through Time and Space - ‘From the Nile to the Bank of the Huangpu River’ Sino-Egyptian Thematic Cultural Exhibition.”

这片土地承载了华夏民族千百年来博大精深的文化体系与深厚悠远的精神内涵,自尊自强、含蓄内敛、温柔敦厚、天人合一的民族精神在这片土地上生生不息,世代相传。本次展览以“天、地、人”三大传统文化精神为主线,设置“动物崇拜、神话、来世体系、尼罗河与黄河文明、文字、宗教与王权”六大主题,学生在查阅并整合大量资料的基础上,制作展品,展现时间的交织、空间的横跨,思考文明的衰落与延续,展现中埃古老文明与现代文明的对话。

This land carries the profound cultural system and a long-lasting spiritual connotation of the Chinese nation for thousands of years, which included the spirit of self-respect and self-improvement, implicit and introverted, gentleness and unity of heaven and mankind is unceasingly born and passed down from generation to generation on this piece of land. The exhibition takes the three traditional cultural spirits of “heaven, earth and man” as its main topic, and sets six themes, “animal worship, myth, afterlife system, Nile and Yellow River civilization, writing, religion and kingship”. The exhibits were created by the students on the basis of a large amount of information, showing the intertwining of time and space, reflecting on the decline and continuation of civilization, and showing the dialogue between the ancient civilization of China and Egypt and the modern civilization.

参观完贵校学生主持的古埃及文化研究项目的成果展示,我颇受震撼。首先,多数小组的探究课题难度不低。这些课题绝非一般的事实呈现型汇报,而是需要依赖批判性思维的分析研究型产出。部分课题甚至是当前我们埃及考古学业内也在热烈讨论的话题,例如古埃及文明的形成与发展是否真的得益于他们的农耕灌溉技术。

同时令我惊喜的是看到好几个小组尝试将我们中国古代的物质或精神遗产与古埃及的同类遗产进行跨文化对比研究。这样的跨文化研究必然需要学者本人对两个文化都具有高超的理解,而孩子们在当前暂时无法做到这一点,然而正是他们这样一次勇敢的尝试从侧面证明了贵校在日常教学指导中已经开始引导学生们使用新颖且在未来极具潜力的研究方法。当前,我们国家在古埃及文化研究领域尚处于起步阶段,我很期待未来在中国的埃及学界能见到教科BC的孩子们!

After visiting the exhibition of the achievements of the ancient Egyptian cultural research projects hosted by the students of your school, I was quite shocked. Firstly, the research topics of most groups were rather difficult. These topics were by no means ordinary reports that simply presented facts, but rather analytical and research-oriented outputs that relied on critical thinking. Some of the topics were even issues that are currently being hotly debated within the Egyptian archaeology field in our country, such as whether the formation and development of the ancient Egyptian civilization really benefited from their farming and irrigation techniques.

Meanwhile, to my pleasant surprise, I saw that several groups tried to conduct cross-cultural comparative studies between the material or spiritual heritages of ancient China and those of ancient Egypt. Such cross-cultural studies inevitably require scholars themselves to have a superb understanding of both cultures. Although the students may not be able to achieve this for the time being, precisely this brave attempt of theirs has, from a side angle, proved that your school has already begun to guide students to use novel research methods with great potential in future in daily teaching and guidance. Currently, our country is still in the initial stage in the field of ancient Egyptian cultural research, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the students from Jiaoke BC in the Chinese Egyptology community in the future.

经过我们组的讨论,我们选定的主题旨在探讨古代文明中不同的文化形成和来源,对比研究不同文明对于自然世界和人类自身的不同认知、对于死后世界的想象和不同的态度、以及丧葬制度反映出的当时的社会生活及制度。我们通过T型帛画与古埃及阿蒙神祭司纸莎草的展品对比,探究古埃及与古中国“重生”与“视死如生”的丧葬文化观念差异。

在制作展品的环节,我们的组员十分认真负责。不仅一早计划起展品的设计、制作和最终效果,而且选择了及其契合的工具和材料。虽然只是仿画,但色彩协调,线稿清晰,还原度极高。白描的手法鲜明体现了我国古人宽袍大袖的意蕴风骨,而泛黄的底色和鲜亮的颜料正如古代埃及所使用的神秘的纸莎草和复古的矿物颜料,展台成型的那一刻,这里似乎真正成为了古代文明的展馆。往来宾客络绎不绝。当玻璃相框竖立在墨色展台前,反光映出一道道交错徘徊的人影。仿佛光影变幻、时间流转,窗外的黄叶被风刮落,带起几千年前古埃及的漫天沙尘;展台前讲解的声音减弱,取而代之的是古代中国朝廷宴席上的推杯换盏、觥筹交错。再度回神,古老的文物也许破损褪色,而古老的文明永垂不朽。在我们的展览之中,一切似乎焕发新生,被赋予崭新的活力与生机。

After many discussions, we decided to choose this topic:Discussing the difference of ancient cultures and civilizations’ source, researching different concepts of various civilizations about the natural world and humanity, the imagination of the afterlife, the reflection of the social life, and funeral systems at that time. Our ancient Chinese exhibit is T shape painting on silk and the ancient Egyptian exhibit is Ammon God Priestly papyrus. The same is that they both described the cognition and imagination of afterlife by ancient people. And the difference of them is the discrepant funeral cultures because of conceptual difference, such as “rebirth” and “Treat death as if it were life”.

At the part of making exhibits, our teammates were very serious and responsible. They not only started planning our exhibits design, making and final effects early, but also chose the extremely suitable tools and materials. Although it was just imitation drawing, the colour and outline are so harmonious and clear. The line drawing clearly reflects the wide robes and big sleeves of ancient people in the Han Dynasty. And the yellowish undertones and bright paints are just as the mysterious papyrus and vintage mineral paint that was used by ancient Egyptians. We showed copies of the exhibits we made, which is like framed artworks. At the moment of setting up the booth, this place seemed to become the real exhibition area of ancient civilization. A constant stream of guests came and went. When the glass picture frames stood before the dark booth, the light reflected plenty of figures. It’s like the changing of light and shadow and the reversing of the time.

通过将“亡灵书”与夏朝的甲骨文进行比较,我们可以更清晰地了解这两个古代文明在同一历史时期展示出的社会发展重点和文化精湛程度。在本项目的研究方法上我们采用了文献研究法和案例分析法,在展品的制作方面我们使用了做旧的处理和闪粉的添加使展品更有时代的韵味,同时甲骨文与埃及文字的巧妙结合也直接反映了文明的碰撞与交融。在整个项目的进程中,我们确实遭遇了诸多棘手的困难。然而,我们并没有被这些困难打倒。我们根据组员的长处合理分配任务,充分利用每一分钟,终于在规定的时间内完成了展品的制作;班主任Yolanda老师对我们的项目进行了实时指导;草莓老师,单独面谈组长,避免项目方向重复。最终,我们的产品得以在当天顺利展出,并收获了大家的认可与赞赏。

为了使产品更有艺术水准,我们采用了用国画颜料做旧的方法。同时用打火机烧了纸草的两边,使其更具有年代的韵味。此外我们还加了闪粉与胶水,使整张画看起来既充满破败感也具有创新意识。

By comparing the Book of the Dead with the oracle bone inscriptions of the Xia Dynasty, we can get a clearer picture of the social development focus and cultural sophistication displayed by these two ancient civilizations during the same historical period. In this project, we used the literature research method and the case analysis method. In the production of the exhibits, we used the old treatment and the addition of glitter to make the exhibits more modern, and the ingenious combination of oracle bone inscriptions and Egyptian characters also directly reflects the collision and integration of civilizations. Throughout the entire project process, we did encounter many thorny difficulties, however, we were not defeated by these difficulties. We have decided to allocate tasks reasonably based on the strengths of my team members, and made full use of every minute, finally completing the production of the exhibits within the specified time. Ms. Yolanda, our homeroom teacher, tracked our project in real-time, Ms. Strawberry held a team leader meeting to inform us of the milestones of each report and had a separate meeting with the team leader to avoid duplication of project direction. In the end, our product was successfully exhibited on that day and received recognition and appreciation from everyone.

To make the product more artistic, we adopted the method of using Chinese painting pigments to make it old. At the same time, we burnt the sides of the papyrus with a lighter to give it a more aged look. In addition, we also added glitter and glue to make the whole painting look both shabby and innovative.
