If you are an avid user of Taobao then we’ve got great news for you! You are now able to pay on Taobao using WeChat Pay and it couldn’t be easier to do.

Step One:

First, make sure your Taobao app is up-to-date, as this is a new feature you’ll need to have the latest version.

Step Two:

Add the items you want to buy to your cart and proceed to checkout, as usual.

WeChat Pay should automatically appear in the payment options

Step Three:

At the checkout screen, if you scroll down you’ll now see WeChat Pay listed as a payment option – you may need to click “更多支付方式 (more payment options)” to see it.

Step Four:

Once you select WeChat Pay, you’ll be prompted to open the WeChat app to authorize the payment. After confirming, you're all set and your order on Taobao is completed!

If WeChat Pay isn’t showing up on your Taobao as an option, this is likely because the merchant hasn’t yet enabled the WeChat Pay function, however as soon as it is enabled it will automatically become available to users. According to aliprice.com, this is because merchants are being invited to enable WeChat Pay in batches, though no specific timeline for the rollout has been given.

When we did a bit of shopping on Taobao this morning we found that for most merchants the WeChat Pay option was already available, however some merchants – one we found was the official H&M Taobao store – didn’t yet have WeChat Pay enabled.

All in all, this is a great new update from Taobao that definitely makes life more convenient and with it coming just before the big 11.11 sales, the timing couldn’t be better. Happy shopping!
