Modernista Turns 13 This Month
So the month is already halfway through, but there’s still time to help Modernista celebrate 13 years in Beijing if you’ve not yet done so. This week they’ve got gigs from a few notable Beijing bands, including Saso and Binoy tonight (Nov 12), the Real Deal on Saturday (Nov 16), Easy Street on Nov 23, and many others. QR Code 2 Plays DDC
Jazz promotional group Harmonious Melody is bringing French keyboardist Thierry Maillard back to Beijing tomorrow night, but with a twist. This time Maillard will be joined by French trumpeter Stephane Belmondo, who will be bringing the trumpet, flugelhorn, and conch shells to life with pedalboards for the first time.
QR Code 2 will be playing at DDC on Wednesday, Nov 13 from 8.30pm until late. Tickets are RMB 88 advance and RMB 108 at the door, and can be purchased via the QR code in this link.

Bonfire Concert: Compas at Celestial
It’s bound to get warm and cozy at Celestial this Thursday with the arrival of Compas, an acoustic band from northwest China specializing in all kinds of warm and fuzzy numbers – see a nice rendition of “Quesas” via the link here. Plus you can stay warm all night with mulled wine on offer from the bar.
Compas is playing at Celestial on Thursday, Nov 14 from 9pm until late. Entry is free.

Carsick Cars 口Aha Tour
These indie rockers, once described by the New York Times as “a nervy, consonant euphoria”, have been causing scenes out of Beijing since 2005. Now they’re on tour and back in Beijing for one night only. This is a show you won’t want to miss if you’re a fan of Chinese rock or are just getting into it.
The Carsick Cars 口Aha Tour is hitting 1919 Live House on Saturday, Nov 16 at 8pm. Entry is RMB 150 pre-sale or RMB 180 at the door. Tickets can be purchased via the QR code in this link.

Pulse Wave II – Harridans & More Play DDC
Also happening, this Saturday, a few expat Beijing bands will be playing DDC in a show headlined by psych-rock outfit the Harridans, with Axis Neptune and Peter O also playing. The Harridans put on wild and unpredictable but fun live shows, so this is also definitely not one to miss.
