In a bizarre case that has captured the attention of netizens across China, a wealthy woman in Chongqing offered 3 million yuan (approximately $450,000) to the wife of a man she fancied, hoping to persuade her to give up her husband. The case, which dates back to 2018, has since evolved into a legal battle, with contrasting rulings from different courts.

According to the details, the wealthy woman became infatuated with a young man who was already married. Determined to have him, she approached his wife and proposed a deal: she would pay the wife 3 million yuan to relinquish her husband. The wife, without hesitation, accepted the money and agreed to the arrangement.

However, the story took an unexpected turn. Not long after securing the young man, the wealthy woman grew tired of him and felt he was not worth the 3 million yuan she had paid. Seeking a "refund," she approached the man's ex-wife to negotiate the return of the money. When the ex-wife refused, the wealthy woman decided to take legal action.

In the first trial, the court ruled in favor of the wealthy woman, stating that the transaction violated public order and good morals, and therefore, the 3 million yuan could not be considered a legitimate gift. The court ordered the ex-wife to return the money.

Unsatisfied with this decision, the ex-wife appealed. The appellate court overturned the initial ruling, concluding that the 3 million yuan was not a gift, but rather a divorce settlement and child support payment made on behalf of the young man by the wealthy woman. As such, the ex-wife was not required to return any of the money.

The case has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many netizens expressing their opinions on the court rulings. One user commented, "The first court's decision makes sense because selling a husband is morally wrong. The money should be returned." Another argued, "The second ruling is fair. The money was for the divorce and child support, not a simple transaction. The ex-wife shouldn’t have to give it back."

Others found humor in the unusual circumstances, with one netizen joking, "This sounds like a plot twist in a soap opera! Imagine asking for a refund on a husband." Another added, "The wealthy woman should have thought twice before making such an offer. Relationships aren’t transactions."
