A popular television host from Heilongjiang province, has sparked considerable online debate by revealing that he has married a Vietnamese woman and given his son Vietnamese nationality. Joey Yang, renowned for his work on Heilongjiang TV, announced his decision, which has left many of his friends and followers perplexed.

Yang, who recently turned forty, explained his rationale in a social media post on July 5th. "I had my son abroad, and after much consideration, I decided to grant him Vietnamese nationality. Today, his passport has been issued," he shared. Yang acknowledged the concerns raised by his friends, who questioned his decision. Some argued that a Vietnamese passport does not carry the same prestige as a Chinese one, while others worried about educational standards in Vietnam compared to China.

Despite these concerns, Yang stood by his decision, expressing a desire to spend more leisure time with his son and leaving the rest to time. Yang's choice follows his marriage to a Vietnamese woman, a union that has already sparked discussions due to cultural and financial implications.

Yang explained that economic circumstances in China made it challenging for him to marry, but in Vietnam, he found a wife without the customary bride price. His Vietnamese mother-in-law even gifted him land to build a house. His wife, born in 1998, is thirteen years his junior.

The host detailed his journey from being a well-known figure on Heilongjiang TV to relocating to Vietnam, where he became a travel vlogger, amassing over a million online followers. His content, which explores and explains various cultures, has gained significant popularity.

Some view Yang's decision to give his son Vietnamese nationality as a strategic move for his education. Certain netizens pointed out that foreign nationals often find it easier to gain admission to prestigious Chinese universities and can benefit from scholarships and stipends.

The news has elicited a range of responses online. While some praised Yang's decision, others were critical. One commenter remarked, "It's puzzling to choose Vietnamese nationality over U.S. or European citizenship."

Another noted, "In Jiangxi, marrying such a beauty would cost a dowry of over 300,000 yuan. I can't even compare; as a factory worker from Jiangxi, I can't afford to marry, let alone arrange a blind date. I wish I could marry a Vietnamese."

Another perspective was shared: "Men marrying beautiful Vietnamese wives, women marrying charming African men - how wonderful, especially when you don't even like each other."

A different commenter reflected, "He's not the first to marry a Vietnamese wife. I wish them well, but I disagree with his views on dowry pressure and education costs."
