Q1

Can you briefly describe the internship you completed? How was your

internship experience?

I had my internship in Zuoyebang for 3 months. It is an education technology company that creates applications for online learning, character AI chatbots, etc. The internship work that I had was mostly related to data annotation and marketing job.  It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. My colleagues welcomed me warmly even though I was the only foreigner in my team. All I can say is I am really grateful for this internship opportunity.

Q2

What were the most valuable skills or knowledge you gained from your internship?

Personally, I think the biggest advantage of this experience is the ability to improve my Chinese language skills. Since most of the workers are Chinese citizens, working in a local Chinese company opened the means for me to learn more Mandarin in everyday life. Other than that, I gained a lot of new knowledge about AI, which I think is quite important considering today's rapid technological advances.

Q3

What sources did you rely on when looking for an internship?

Back then, I tried to apply through an application called 实习僧. I remember that I applied for more than 150 positions in various companies, however none of them gave any feedback.  Fortunately, someone sent a job vacancy in one of the student groups on WeChat and surprisingly I got the internship.

Q4

How should we get prepared before getting an internship?

In general, the first thing is to prepare a CV. I think it is better to have a CV available in 2 languages, Chinese and English. Then, become familiar with interview questions. Prepare answers to interview questions that may arise. But apart from that, there is one immensely important thing, which is your self-confidence. The more you are confident about yourself, the more the recruiter can be confident about choosing you.

Q5

What advice would you give to someone during their first internship? Anything to pay attention to or tips to stand out as an intern?

I see many interns who underestimate their work, perhaps because they feel they are not full-time workers yet. However, this mindset makes them a little lazy and neglect their responsibilities sometimes. But personally, I think we shouldn't feel that way. It is best to always give your all and pour your heart into whatever you are doing. Your boss and your manager can certainly tell the difference.

Q6

How did you prepare for the interview?

Any recommendations or tips for the juniors?

I trained myself to answer questions that are generally found in job interviews. These questions can be easily found on the internet. Apart from that, I also pay attention to my appearance during interviews because I believe it can create a strong first impression, reflecting professionalism and respect for the opportunity.
