费尔南多·博特罗，生于1932年4月19日。是哥伦比亚著名雕塑家，画家，被认为是哥伦比亚国家的荣耀和人民信仰之父。
年幼时期，曾拜师学习斗牛，立志成为一名斗牛士。16岁时，发现绘画能够反映人类更强的搏斗精神，而后投身绘画事业。初期在麦德林画院学习，后到首都波哥大投奔名门大师。
他曾经说过：“在1956或1957年，在一个瞬间，我看到了一样东西，我在静物和曼陀铃上表现了我想要表现的内容。这是个开始，因为在那个瞬间，我看到了那幅作品，我看到了我所创作的一个属于我自己的博特罗风格的作品，它不是摹仿品也不是衍生物，而是一个实实在在的创作品。”

He told Americas writer Ana Maria Escallon,
"Nobody ever told me: 'Art is this.' This was good luck in a way because I would have had to spend half of my life forgetting everything that I had been told, which is what happens with most students in schools of fine arts."
