• This 9th edition of the Michelin Guide for China’s F&B capital was announced on November 19 – and whilst we always take the guide’s decisions inside China’s Mainland with a little pinch of salt, we’ve been waiting excitedly to see if any NEW rising stars will be celebrated. And we do have some new entries, to add to the places we'll now never get a reservation at!
• The Michelin Guide Shanghai 2025 awarded a total of 53 restaurants with stars. There are 2 restaurants in the three-star category, 9 restaurants in the two-star category, and 42 restaurants in the one-star category. The one-star category included 5 new entries. Taian Table and Ultraviolet continue to hold three stars from the previous years.
• Congratulations to everyone listed – and be sure to check out the selected restaurants too, which is where many of our favourites like Frasca and Dining Room hide out.
Bon Appetite!
Quick Explainer: What is the Michelin Guide?
First published in 1900, The Michelin Guide is now regarded as the fine-dining bible. A Michelin star is the ultimate hallmark of culinary excellence. Michelin stars are awarded by inspectors to restaurants judged to be of a particularly high standard. Eateries that make the grade can be awarded one, two, or three stars, and the accolade is much coveted by chefs around the world. It is a big deal, chefs have taken their own lives, after losing their starts - and they can truly make or break restaurants.
