//

During the most difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic, we designed and constructed this 174㎡ apartment located in the Third Ring Road of Beijing. The owners are a newly married couple. They not only have excellent aesthetics, but also have a rational and emotional attitude towards home. It can not only meet the comprehensive functions, but also become their own home.

They felt extremely happy during the entire decoration process. They felt respect and insight from our design services, and even experienced empathy. This seemingly simple evaluation is the greatest affirmation for us.

The aesthetic trend of the owners is not a certain style or a pile of popular elements. They hope that the core of the design is the interaction, integration and empathy between this space and the residents. We firmly believe that the emotional expression of design elements such as materials, colors, and shapes must be consistent with the experience of the residents. No matter how lively the visual impact is, it is not as good as the moment when you can feel "being treated with care" when using it.

The hostess was an architect. Her keen perception of materials allows us to always find a matching design language. In this space, marble, stainless steel, microcement, plaster, wood, mosaic and other materials appear in different fields, echoing each other, bringing rich texture and delicate color changes to the entire apartment.

In this ever-changing era, the ideal of living is constantly changing. Therefore, the spatial transformation idea of this case always revolves around: satisfying the present, leaving space for the future, and making every corner of the home full of 100 possibilities.

The original layout of this apartment is divided into three bedrooms by multiple small rooms. But for a family of two people and a cat, the house should be open and free, and can accommodate various possibilities of life. The owner's living demands can be summarized as: a large living room, luxurious and comfortable bathroom space, complete Chinese and Western kitchens, and flexible space reserved for future children and nannies' rooms.

Nowadays, it is particularly important to live comfortably and have more complete functions. We imagined various life scenarios and future life changes after the owner moved into the house, which led to the appearance of this apartment.

Each space is not a formal existence, but is left for the owner's future life changes. It is extremely comfortable from the visual to the physical and mental feelings, and this apartment has become freer, more open, and more varied.

The owner prefers cold and tough materials, so we designed a stainless steel bookshelf with rich structure in the foyer. This bookcase is stuck on the beam of the foyer, and when the light strip on the back is turned on, the light will outline its shape. There is also an off-axis door installed in the middle of this bookcase, which can be adjusted by translation to adjust the shape of the open shelf.

There was originally a concave wall structure at the entrance, in which a suspended shoe cabinet was embedded, which was light in size. The combination of teak-colored veneer and micro-cement wall makes the space look warm.

The public restroom opposite the entrance was divided into two parts: a dry area and a wet area. The floors of the toilet area and the wash area are painted with cement art paint, while the shower area uses small marble tiles of the same color as the cement art paint.

After experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone prefers to place the wash basin at the door to solve the problem of home cleaning and disinfection. A whole mirror is installed behind the marble wash basin, and the faucet is delicately embedded.

The living room, dining room and western kitchen are integrated into one space, spacious and comfortable. Due to the original floor height, we did not choose to hang the whole ceiling to hide the downlight, but chose Flos's wall-mounted kite lamp as the ceiling lamp. The paper lamp and the plaster-covered wall have a natural and simple beauty. In order to avoid monotony in the space, the honey-colored wooden floor is matched with the khaki sofa, making the living space more stable and warm.

We demolished the original secondary bedroom and added a western kitchen area. The dining table was specially designed for this space. It was custom-made from solid wood and contrasted with the island counter next to it, which was a combination of Carrara white marble and wood. The side of the island counter was cleverly embedded with sockets, which was convenient and beautiful.

The color of the cabinets in the western kitchen area is consistent with the wall. Thin marble slabs are inserted into the wall with steel bars, which perfectly solves the problem of excessive stone weight.

Behind the island, we changed a window in the original structure into a small door leading to the kitchen, which not only shortened the distance to enter this space, but also made the entire space more coherent and interesting.

In order to solve the problem of hidden pipelines on the top surface, we used European pine boards as the base, and then pasted wood veneer to form a beam structure, which echoed the wooden beam design of the stainless steel cabinet area and maintained the overall beauty of the space.

The female owner loves painting and plans to display her works at home in the future. Based on this wish, we changed the corridor into a "gallery". A painting hanging system is reserved on one side of the corridor, and the sliding door of the study is on the other side. A recessed niche is designed on the wall next to the sliding door, which can accommodate a large painting. When the study door is closed, the hostess's paintings will become the visual focus of the corridor, as if you are in a private art gallery. The magnetic track lights on the ceiling provide lighting. This ingenuity is not only practical, but also artistic.

Among all the design requirements, the female owner attaches the most importance to the comfort and beauty of the master bedroom bathroom. The master bathroom in her dream should have a luxurious ritual comparable to that of a five-star hotel, while also having the warmth and personality of home. We replanned the layout of the master bedroom and expanded the area of the master bathroom, striving to maximize the user experience.

The master bathroom not only has independent toilet, shower and bathtub areas, but also the washbasin area is designed as a double basin. Some of these spaces are connected to each other, and some are separated by glass doors, which has a very dense and orderly rhythm.

The master bathroom and bedroom are separated by a half-height wall, and the most dynamic design is the two black-framed double doors and three long windows. When the two double doors are closed, they are flush with the windows, and when opened, they form a screen that encloses the wash area, making it transparent and natural.

The entire master bathroom is made of green marble with rich textures, which is like bringing the fresh breeze of nature into the room and washing away all troubles. The use of soft membrane ceiling can imitate the warm light of sunset, like an unexpected sunset, spreading poetry in every corner.

The half-height wall and the columnar wall of the main bathroom are spliced with cement art paint and green marble. The cement-colored wall is stable and steady, and the marble is like water waves rippling gently. With the mosaic on the floor, the fashionable and exquisite elements are shining.

From the full vitality of the early morning to the release of the whole body's fatigue at night, this space is the starting point and home of daily life. Through our insight into the owner's lifestyle, we created the personality and intention of this apartment.

The bed backboard in the master bedroom continues the design essence of the bathroom, with green marble and black wood veneer interspersed, giving the entire space a calm and natural atmosphere. The reading light is embedded in the green marble, forming a seamless whole. The head of the bed is next to the only south-facing window in the entire house, and the light naturally projects in, warming the entire space, as if injecting new vitality into this quiet place. Light and material meet here, creating a warm and peaceful sleeping atmosphere.

Every inch of home carries the expectation of life and the sustenance of emotions. As designers, what we do is not just to build a house, but to weave a poem about life in light, shadow, material and details. From the first ray of sunshine in the morning to the quiet tenderness at night, every design responds to the desires and dreams of the residents.

The design process is like embarking on a journey of exploration of the future with the owner. Those once vague needs and wishes gradually become clear with constant communication and resonance, and finally condense into this thoughtful home in front of us. Perhaps, every day in the future will continue to extend in this space, just like the light that never stops, illuminating every corner of the home and every moment in life.
