She had a qualm about lying to her parents.
The police managed to quell the riot before it spread further.(警察成功镇压了骚乱,防止其进一步扩散。)
She tried to quell her rising anger.(她试图控制她正在上升的愤怒。)
He quailed at the thought of speaking in front of such a large audience.(他一想到要在这么多观众面前讲话就感到胆怯。)
The soldiers did not quail in the face of danger.(士兵们在危险面前并没有畏缩。)
The boat's rocking motion made her feel queasy.(船只的摇晃让她感到恶心。)
He always gets queasy before flying.
The news of the impending layoffs left the employees feeling queasy.(即将裁员的消息让员工们感到不安。)
Price growth has helped push firms to raise wages, too. Annual negotiations, known as shunto, have produced big salary increases for two years running. This year’s average nominal wage growth will exceed 5% for the first time since 1991. The trend is likely to continue, thanks to demographic and generational changes. As Japan’s working-age population shrinks, the competition for talent is heating up. Changing jobs was once seen as taboo; young Japanese today have fewer qualms about that.
