With the approval of the National Immigration Administration, the scope of the e-port visa pilot program has been expanded from the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area to encompass all of the Pudong New Area, effective immediately. Foreign nationals invited to Shanghai by enterprises in the Pudong New Area and who meet the requirements for port visa application may apply for F (visit), M (business), R (talent), Z (work), and S2 (private affairs) e-port visas, allowing them to enter the country via the Shanghai port.
The e-port visa application process is entirely online. Authorized companies can log into the electronic government platform of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau’s Exit-Entry Administration to submit the visa application on behalf of applicants. Once the e-port visa is issued, the inviting entity may download the Electronic Port Visa Confirmation Letter of the People's Republic of China in PDF format from the electronic government platform and send it to the applicant. The applicant can save the confirmation letter on an electronic device or print it, and can enter and stay in China with their passport and the e-visa.
To further promote the electronic visa reform at ports and enhance visa management and service efficiency in China, the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration, with approval from the National Immigration Administration, has been piloting the e-port visa system in the Lingang New Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone since July 12. Since its implementation, the policy has been well-received by companies and foreign employees in the Lingang New Area, with many expressing that the e-port visa system significantly enhances the convenience for foreign personnel coming to China.
