Dear ACEM faculty, students, 

alumni and friends,

Happy New Year!

A new chapter is going to start with the elapse of old year. As The New Year bell of 2025 is about to ring, on behalf of ACEM, we would like to extend our sincere greetings and our best wishes for a happy New Year!

In 2024, we celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of New China, and the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was successfully held, charting a comprehensive course for reform and development. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, ACEM has thoroughly carried out Party discipline study and education, implemented the guiding principles of the National Education Conference, and striven for high-quality development driven by high-quality Party building. We comprehensively summarized and systematically analyzed the valuable experience and fine traditions over the past 40 years, forged ahead building on past achievements and made breakthroughs. Guided by the development strategy of “Two types of scholarship, horizontal (academic) and vertical (industry), reinforcing each other and connecting theory with practice” and driven by the dual drivers of industry research and technology finance, we have made great development and remarkable progress in all aspects, and moved steadily forward on the road to building a world-class business school that firmly rooted in China, thanks to the concerted efforts of all teachers and students and the care and support from all walks of life.

Staying true to our original aspiration and forging ahead with perseverance, we united and pooled strengths to promote development. With the main theme of commemorating the 40th anniversary of restoration of ACEM, we carried out a series of annual activities in various forms, such as  hosting commemorative conferences, commemorative evening parties, subject forums, ACEM history exhibitions, homecomings, campus check-ins, and seminars. We organized teachers, students and alumni to review the 123 years of development of economics and management subjects and 40 years of ACEM restoration, summarized, condensed and inherited the glorious traditions and spiritual character of those before them, and jointly blessed and looked forward to the future development of ACEM.

We were committed to fulfilling our mission and nurturing talents to realize their dreams. We made unremitting efforts to build outstanding teaching teams. Professor Wang Huanchen won the highest award in the field of systems science and systems engineering in China, 10 scholars once again made the list of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers”, 12 teachers and teams were awarded the “Teaching and Education Award” and “Scientific Research Achievement Award”, and four professors were employed as counselors of the Shanghai Municipal Government. ACEM won the special award for teaching achievements of SJTU, ranked fifth in the world in the Financial Times’ 100 Masters in Management, entered into a cooperation agreement with CUHK to lunch a dual-degree program in Finance and FinTech, and the first Masters of Technology Transfer (MTTs) graduated. We celebrated the 30th anniversary of the MBA program, with our MBA among top 3 in Chinese Mainland for six consecutive years in QS Global MBA Rankings. We organized activities such as “First Lesson Delivered by Dean”, secretary’s party lesson, and graduation voyage education to inspire students’ original aspiration to serve the country. ACEM students won the new liberal arts gold medal in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition, the first of its kind in the history of SJTU; more than 200 students secured awards of various competitions at the provincial and ministerial levels and above. Our doctoral graduates got employed overseas as teachers for the first time in the history of ACEM.

We intensified our efforts to undertake leading programs to reach new heights. 30 ACEM projects were funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Program and National Social Science Fund of China Program. The programs undertaken by us as the leading unit have been approved as Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China for two consecutive years. For the first time, our teams were rated NSFC Collaborative Innovation Research Teams; 9 achievements won the 9th Outstanding Research Achievement Award for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and the Journal of Management Analytics (JMA) (English) included in the ABS list for the first time. The 21st Century Multinational Enterprise Strategy Research Institute, the Intelligent Computing Research Institute, and the Environmental and Social Governance Research Institute were established, and they were approved as one of the first philosophy and social science innovation teams of the Ministry of Education; the China Development Research Institute was included in the think tanks in universities in Shanghai. ACEM signed agreements with the six batch of industry research teams, totally 29 teams. New publications, indices, reports and other results have been released one after another to help empower teaching, scientific research and alumni; we combined teaching with industry research to select benchmark companies, so as to promote innovative development of case studies, with progress in monographs, indices, reports and other results. In partnership with Tsinghua SEM, we promoted the development and overseas publication of Chinese cases.  Shenzhen Research Institute is deeply integrated into the construction of the Greater Bay Area, and Antai Asia-Pacific Center, based in Singapore, aims to expand its reach to ASEAN.

We are committed to global engagement and mutual learning, embracing diversity and inclusiveness. The 10th International Business School Shanghai Conference was held to explore artificial intelligence and the future of business. We held the SJTU-ACEM Strategy Meeting 2024. 16 ACEM students and alumni participated the Paris Olympic Games, winning 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. The Global Summer Program was held,  offering Chinese and foreign students from 18 countries with an opportunity to experience cultural exchange and integration. Once again, we achieved EQUIS re-accreditation for another five years. Our three subjects ranked top 50 in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, and have been rated A+ for 4 consecutive years in Times Higher Education (THE) China Subject Ratings. We held forums on major discipline of Business Administration, Management Science & Engineering, and Applied Economics and the first Haoran TechFin Forum, and hosted the 2024 Annual  “China International Conference in Economics” and “China Job Market for Economics”.

We are building our campus together and connecting with alumni to collaboratively blueprint our future. The Hao Ran High-tech Building has officially been put into use, college history exhibitions, teacher and student cultural exhibitions and some other exhibitions were launched, and the SJTU Souvenir Center at ACEM was put into use. We won the gold medal of the "December 9" Teacher-Student Song Concert for the first time. Through these efforts, we have constantly promoted campus construction to enhance the sense of gain and happiness of teachers and students. We held various high-level training projects, such as the Shanghai Municipal Cadre Special Seminar, and held the second media integration innovation class through the "Journalists' Home" University Hall. The Antai Alumni Association was officially established to hold exciting alumni activities, fully gathering the strength of alumni and achieving two-way empowerment. The cash donations received exceeded 30 million for the first time in more than 4,700 donations.

The intersection of vertical and horizontal lines may only form a single point. However, as generations of Antai people have moved forth all of them are striving to push forward and seek progress when connected with each other. Every simple connection and intersection can empower each other, thus weaving a chapter of peace and prosperity that resonates with the times and the world.

As the New Year is approaching, all those in ACEM will forge ahead with hope and confidence standing at a new starting point of the 40th anniversary of the restoration of ACEM. In 2025, we should, following the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and under the strong leadership of the school Party committee, actively preparing the 4th Congress of Party Representatives, break new ground and forge ahead in a down-to-earth way with concerted efforts of teachers, students and alumni. We will accelerate our pace to develop ourselves into a world-class business school rooted in China from a higher standpoint and through greater efforts and more practical measures, so as to made new and greater contributions to the journey of SJTU into a leading world-class university and the great course of building a great country and advance national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization!
