The Society welcomes poster proposals from graduate students on all aspects of economic and/or social history covering a wide range of periods and countries, and particularly welcomes posters of an interdisciplinary nature and posters from women and other under-represented groups.
Poster presenters will normally be at an early stage of pursuing their PhD, but should have completed at least one year of full-time PhD study by the time of the conference. Graduate students who have previously presented a poster will be eligible to apply to present a paper in the New Researcher session in a subsequent year, but may present in the poster session only once during their graduate career.
The poster session will be held on Saturday after lunch and during the Saturday afternoon tea/coffee break. It offers students an excellent opportunity to showcase and gain feedback on early-stage work in a supportive environment.
For full consideration, all poster proposals must be received by 18 November 2024 via the link below. You will be asked to submit the following:
Contact details (including any co-authors)
The start date and the intended date for submission of your thesis (or the date when you achieved your PhD)
A short CV (which should include: academic qualifications, current position and/or programme of study, conference papers and publications)
Co-author CV(s) should also be provided
The title of the poster proposed
A short abstract of the paper proposed (300-500 words) which should include:
Background to the poster
Outline of the question to be asked
Summary of methods
Probable conclusions
Research progress
Sources used and the data collection process
In the case of a co-authored submission, a description of the co-author(s) contribution
Communication to proposers:
Notices of acceptance will be sent to individual poster-givers by early/mid-December 2024 when they will be asked to provide the following:
A poster, which will be displayed at the conference and posted on the conference website
Presenters must bring their printed poster (A0 size) with them to the conference
Produce a three-minute video introducing their research, which will be posted on the conference website
Detailed guidance on videos and posters will be circulated to accepted poster presenters.
The poster and the video must be uploaded to a designated Dropbox folder, by 10 March 2025.
The posters and videos will be assessed by members of the NR poster prize committee, which will award a prize of £100 for the best poster/video presented at the conference. Posters will not be eligible for the prize if either the author or co-author(s) have been awarded their PhD by the end of the calendar year preceding the annual conference
Funding:
The Economic History Society is able to offer a financial contribution to assist new researchers to attend the conference, when this is not available from their institution. Any monies awarded would not cover travelling expenses. Please contact the Society’s administrators if you are interested in applying for a bursary.
