Persistent Toxic Substances & Health
Persistent toxic substances (PTS), including organic and inorganic forms, present a significant risk to the eco-environment and human health. The potential risks associated with new PTS, such as micropollutants and microplastics, remain uncertain and have prompted widespread concerns. This special issue addresses four key areas of research: 1) exposure of the environment and human beings to PTS, 2) analysis of PTS in complex media, 3) fate and processes of PTS in the environment and organisms, and 4) toxicity, risk of PTS and their control. The objective is to provide new insights into the risks of both traditional and new PTS to the environment and humans, as well as to offer support to policy-makers in managing these risks.

When submitting your manuscript please select the article type “VSI: PTS&H". Please submit your manuscript before the submission deadline of June 30th, 2025.
All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production, and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. Articles from this Special Issue will appear in different regular issues of the journal, though they will be clearly marked and branded as Special Issue articles.
Please ensure you read the Guide for Authors before writing your manuscript. The Guide for Authors and the link to submit your manuscript are available on the Journal’s homepage: Eco-Environment & Health | Journal | ScienceDirect.com by Elsevier.
