Background
On November 16, to enhance students' global competence, the Departments of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University jointly organized a special intercultural exchange activity—a one-day tour of the Forbidden City. The event brought together over 20 participants, including international students from various associations and Chinese students. United by their curiosity and enthusiasm for Chinese culture, the group embarked on an inspiring journey of cultural discovery.

At 7:40 in the morning, participants departed from the campus by chartered bus, reflecting the meticulous organization of the event. By 8:30, the group had arrived at the Forbidden City, ready to begin an enriching day of exploration. To provide deeper insights into the history and culture of the site, a professional guide was specially arranged to accompany the group throughout the visit. Under the guide’s detailed explanations, the participants explored key landmarks such as the Meridian Gate, the Gate of Supreme Harmony, and the Hall of Supreme Harmony. The grandeur of the palaces, the exquisite carvings, and the rich historical narratives left everyone in awe.

Cross-Cultural Exchange
This event is not only a cultural journey but also an excellent platform for fostering connections between Chinese and international students. Throughout the tour, international students show great interest in the Forbidden City’s rich history and traditional Chinese culture, while Chinese students actively introduce cultural knowledge and share their own perspectives. Through this interaction, international students gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, and Chinese students broaden their global outlook and enhance their cross-cultural communication skills.
