Special issue information:
The retail industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by a wave of technological advancements that have redefined the way businesses operate and how consumers shop. In recent years, the retail landscape has witnessed a remarkable convergence of cutting-edge technologies and innovative retail strategies. This technologically driven new landscape prioritizes convenience, personalization, and efficiency. This exciting world of technological and digital retail developments includes opportunities and challenges from continuous developments in electronic commerce (e.g., online shopping platforms, mobile apps), artificial intelligence and machine learning (e.g., demand forecasting, personalized marketing, customer services), digital innovations (e.g., AR/VR, digital assistants), and internet of things (e.g., smart shelves, cashierless payments). Retailers leverage technology-driven big data analytics to gain deeper insights into customer behavior and preferences and establish data-driven, automated decisions on pricing, inventory management, and marketing strategies. Predictive analytics models further help retailers anticipate trends and customer demands, enabling them to stay ahead of the competition.
In conclusion, the retail industry is in the midst of a technological revolution that is reshaping the shopping experience. From the convenience and challenges of digital shopping to personalized recommendations by AI and immersive experiences offered by AR/VR, recent technological advancements are enhancing customer satisfaction and driving efficiency for retailers. The special issue aims to explore these advancements in greater detail and provide retailers (embracing the technological advancements) with normative decision support and action recommendations for an increasingly competitive and dynamic market.
