Special issue information:
In recent years, there has been a surge in the utilization of omic technologies in the field of osteoarthritis (OA). OA researchers are extensively employing transcriptomic and epigenomic techniques including (but not limited to) bulk RNA sequencing, single cell/nuclei RNA/ATAC sequencing, and spatial sequencing, to study the joint tissues affected by OA. Utilization of these high throughput technologies has been instrumental to advance our understanding of the complexity of OA pathogenic processes, identify crucial gene regulatory mechanisms, and discover novel molecular markers and therapeutic targets of the disease. As transcriptomic and epigenomic techniques continue to evolve, challenges associated with sample processing, and data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination have emerged. Thus, it is important that the OA community collectively harnesses the power of such technologies and addresses their current limitations through methodological improvements to further advance basic and translational research in OA. This special issue invites researchers to submit high quality articles on topics related to transcriptomic and epigenomic profiling in OA.
