Prof. Rolf Sandström, a tenured professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, has dedicated 50 years to creep research. Inspired by the first-principles methods, he pioneered the fundamental creep model and authored the foundational work in the field, "Fundamentals of Creep in Metals and Alloys." Key topics covered:- Fundamental theoretical models of metal creep
- In-depth analysis of steady-state creep, stress-strain curves, and primary creep
- Detailed explanations of important mechanisms like solid solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening, grain boundary sliding, and creep cavitation
- Introduction of new research results on low-stress creep, ultra-long-term creep life prediction, and ultra-high extrapolation ratios up to millions of years
