The 7th World Sinophone Drama Competition for Young Playwrights (WSDC) will start accepting submissions from August 15, 2024 to November 15, 2024. The first prize winner will receive a prize of NT$100,000. All three winning works will be translated and promoted globally by the organizers, with staged readings in either Chinese or English to introduce the outstanding works of young playwrights from the global Chinese community to readers and audiences worldwide.
Organized by Research Center for Theatre and Performance Studies at National Central University (Taiwan), sponsored by the S-An Cultural Foundation, and co-organized by Nanjing University, the 7th WSDC for Young Playwrights collaborates with 16 prominent international universities and art groups. It is the world's first playwriting competition targeting the global Chinese community, soliciting stage play scripts in both Chinese and English. Since its inception in 2015, the competition has received over 900 valid submissions from around the world. The winning works have been translated into both Chinese and English, with six bilingual e-books published and numerous staged readings and performances held in ten cities globally.
The 7th WSDC for Young Playwrights will again feature a "Mentorship Program," where the organizers will assign dramaturgy mentors to the winners. During a revision period of one to two months, this program aims to help refine the winning works to present a more polished version to readers and audiences.
