About the Project
We're looking for a full-time PhD student ($40,109AUD/year scholarship for 3.5 years) to lead exciting research about implementing an evidence-based program called 'EMPOWER-SMS' into Breast Cancer Network Australia’s (BCNA) helpline services. Only open to citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand. Key tasks include:
Evaluating how EMPOWER-SMS can be implemented as ‘business as usual’ into BCNA’s helpline services for people from regional, rural and remote locations; this will include using implementation science frameworks to identify barriers and enablers to implementation and forming strategies to overcome barriers and/or leverage enablers.
Understanding the preferences of priority populations such as First Nations and those with metastatic breast cancer to adapt EMPOWER-SMS to fit their needs. You’ll use adaptation frameworks, focus groups, surveys and feasibility testing.
Apply now if you are:
an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen
hold an honours degree (first class) or equivalent in psychology, medical science, nursing, public health, allied health or a related area
committed to undertaking research into the field of cancer survivorship
First Nations people are encouraged to apply
More information about EMPOWER-SMS: EMPOWER-SMS was co-designed with breast cancer survivors, health professionals and researchers. It was designed to deliver advice about improving health outcomes and weblinks to free resources. Over 1000 breast cancer survivors across Australia have tested EMPOWER-SMS in a clinical trial and a community-based implementation study and said it was useful (91%), supportive (88%), and motivating for managing their health (70%).
