A Thai woman has shocked social media by revealing that a needle was accidentally left inside her vagina during childbirth 18 years ago, causing her severe and ongoing pain. The 36-year-old woman from Narathiwat, Thailand, shared her story through the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, a non-profit organization that helps victims of abuse, including medical malpractice.
The woman explained that during her labor, medical staff dropped a suture needle inside her vagina while stitching up the delivery wound. In a panic about potential bleeding, the doctors decided to close the wound without retrieving the needle. She remained unaware of the error until last year when an X-ray revealed the needle lodged inside her body.
Since the incident, the woman has endured intermittent and unbearable lower abdominal pain, which has significantly impacted her daily life. Although doctors attempted to remove the needle, the procedure has been postponed three times due to complications, including the needle shifting within her body. As a result, she requires regular follow-up visits at the hospital, but the financial burden of transport and additional medical expenses has been difficult for her family to manage.
While most of her medical costs are covered by insurance, the woman has turned to the Pavena Foundation for assistance with transportation and treatment. The organization has coordinated with a local hospital and the village head to ensure she receives the necessary care. They also contacted the social security office to arrange transport for her hospital visits.
The woman’s case has sparked outrage online, with many condemning the hospital for its negligence. Some social media users have called for legal action, demanding that the doctor responsible be held accountable for the suffering the woman has endured. “She should sue the doctor for 18 years of pain,” one comment read, while another added, “Irresponsible doctors must face consequences.”
Currently, the needle remains in place, and the woman’s future treatment is uncertain. The hospital’s response and any possible compensation for the woman’s suffering have yet to be revealed.
