South Korean media reported Wednesday that former TV announcer and model Kim Na-jung recently sought help from the South Korean Embassy in the Philippines, requesting assistance to leave the country after admitting to drug use.
According to Edaily, the 32-year-old contacted the embassy on Tuesday, citing an unspecified danger, and was helped in reaching the airport and boarding a flight from Manila to Incheon.
While the embassy did not confirm the specifics of Kim’s request or any perceived threats, Kim posted on Instagram earlier that day, claiming to be in a life-threatening situation. Later, she confessed to using illegal drugs, explaining that she felt unable to board her flight as she believed others were observing her, referencing the film The Truman Show. She expressed fear that boarding the plane would somehow result in her death.
Kim later deleted these posts, including her drug confession, and has since provided no further updates or statements clarifying her situation or her initial claims.
Meanwhile, an anonymous netizen reported Kim to the authorities, filing a petition on South Korea's e-People website, urging the Seoul police to investigate her alleged drug use. The complainant expressed concerns over how celebrity drug use could influence teenagers and contribute to higher addiction rates.
Reports indicate that Kim has since turned herself in to the Seoul police. However, details about the exact timing or the outcome of her self-report remain unconfirmed. The incident has sparked considerable media attention in South Korea, as the public awaits further clarification on her actions and the potential investigation.
