The following text

Hey everyone, welcome back to Yapping with Michael. Today I want to share with everyone about a movie that I recently watched called Seabiscuit. It took place in around the 1920s, and its main characters are a horse named Seabiscuit and three groups of people: a wealthy man, a man with a good judge of talent for horses, and a rider.

今天我想和大家分享一部我最近看过的电影,叫Seabiscuit(中文译作《奔腾年代》)。

For the wealthy man, he kind of went bankrupt in the Great Depression and kind of climbed back up a little bit. The man was a good judge of talent. Everyone thought he was weird because his model was to never sacrifice a life because of a little infraction. For the rider, no one really believed in him because he was blind in one eye and that he was a little overweight to be a rider.

And as for the horse Seabiscuit himself, he wasn't really the best horse that anyone would pick for racing. In fact, he was shorter than the average horse, and compared to those huge muscular horses that would always be in races, he would only be used to have the riders do warm-up laps around the horse tracks.

So these three people and this one horse, no one would care about them under normal circumstances. But when all four of them combined and put their talents and all their skills together, they blew up and basically became really famous, especially because Seabiscuit kept winning every single race there was in America for horse riding. And so all people in America would always come to watch Seabiscuit.

But then something kind of happened in between in the movie that changed it a little bit. Seabiscuit and the rider got hurt; they got injured, both of them. The rider broke his leg, and Seabiscuit tore a ligament, and that means that they were basically guaranteed to never race again. But the rider really believed that he and Seabiscuit could push through if they pushed really hard through these hard times. And so they kept doing rehab, they kept training, they persevered through the pain, and eventually, they made history by winning another race after that. And they kept on winning.

So what I think is really inspiring, first of all, about this movie are the characters. A kid, basically a kid who was thrown out on the streets when he was a teenager, basically he was blind in one eye, he was at the lowest of the low in his life. And a horse who was short, who didn't have much talent, who everyone thought was a waste of time. These two, on top of that, with a broken leg and a torn ligament, put together to win race after race after race.

Now, what's inspiring isn't really the fact that they won all those races but the fact that they were able to push through the pain, push through everyone's words of insult, through all of that to achieve success. And apart from that, the model, like I said earlier, the man was a good judge of talent. His model is very important to the storyline as well. You don't give up a talent because of a little bit of infraction, because of a small injury. You always got to have that heart of compassion and give everyone and everything a chance.

And so finally, what we can really take away from this is, first of all, which is less important compared to the other point, is that you always have to be prepared for chance. But also, like people who are prepared in this world for luck to come to them, there are so many that were more prepared than Seabiscuit, who are better at riding than Seabiscuit and the rider. So why was it that they gained success? Well, mostly it was because they did the right thing at the right time at the right place. Those three factors put together, and on top of that their training, their perseverance, all of that were seen by God and he—well, not exactly God, but a miracle was bestowed upon them because they did the right thing at the right time at the right place.

And so the other thing, which leads into my other point, you always got to believe in miracles because it is a way for you to never give up on yourself. It's a way of telling you that you shouldn't give up on yourself because things will happen that will go your way if you work hard enough, if you don't give up, if you keep on going, keep on pushing yourself forward through pain and insight and all that. Eventually, a miracle will happen, and you will achieve maybe not what you want, but you will achieve some sort of success. And that is the most important thing to take away from Seabiscuit.

So that's it for today. The end. Bye!
