Cultural and Artsy Things Worth Checking Out in Beijing

Arts and culture are alive in the capital, and we've got another list of a few things worth checking out for those looking for a bit of artsy in their lives. 


Rebecca Staged Concert



Based on Alfred Hitchcock’s Oscar-nominated film, itself an adaptation of a novel by Daphne du Maurier, Rebecca tells the story of a young woman in her 20s who falls in love with and marries a wealthy widower. The couple moves to the man's estate, Manderly, but they are haunted by the memory of his deceased wife Rebecca. Presented by Austrian theatre company Vereinigte Buhnen Wein (VBW), this will be the first time the musical version will be staged in China.


Rebecca will be performed at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, with shows happening from Wednesday, Nov 20 ‘til Sunday, Nov 24 at various times. Tickets are RMB 180-1,080 and can be purchased via the QR code in the poster or this link. The musical with be performed in German with Chinese subtitles.

Bone Lhamokyap Highlands Tribal Music Concert



Be transported to the highlands of southwestern China with the music of Bone Lhamokyap. This special concert presents the healing sounds of Tibetan music inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of the plateau, performed through soulful ethnic chants, rhythmic beats, and the mesmerizing tones of handcrafted flutes.


Bone Lhamokyap Highlands Tribal Music Concert will be happening on Friday, Nov 22 from 7.30-9.30pm at JinShang Yuan. Tickets are RMB 166 per person and can be booked by scanning the QR code in the poster or in this link.

Lucky Strike Oil Painting Exhibition



This exhibition, curated by Austrian expat and artist Nina Dillenz, showcases a series of small-format oil paintings meant to highlight the charm of the exhibition space. The paintings are also arranged in a way that combines the Chinese principles of the Five Elements, Yijing (I-Ching), and Bagua (eight ways), as a means of immersing the viewer into a welcoming yet thought-provoking space.


Lucky Strike is showing from now until Dec 7 at SmallRoom Project Space, Entry is free but booking is recommended. To book a visit you can contact the space on WeChat (ID: Menyok_Duan).
