About the position
This PhD project focuses on redistributing surplus food from sources like supermarkets to those in need, such as through food banks, with the goal of reducing food waste and supporting the mission of a hunger-free world. It addresses key challenges in the allocation, scheduling, and routing of foods for redistribution, especially given the resource constraints faced by volunteer-run organizations. The aim is to develop innovative redistribution models and solutions for real-life scenarios to enhance efficiency and equity.
Candidates may also propose their own research topic if mutually agreed upon.

Qualifications
Master's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Management Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields.
Interest in combinatorial optimization, multi-objective optimization, heuristic/matheuristic algorithms.
Experience with optimization solvers (e.g., Cplex, Gurobi) is a plus.
Funding
Open to EU and non-EU students with a Master's degree.
PhD tuition fees waived.
Annual stipend of €22,000 plus additional funding for research costs.
