It is imperative for children to know about their own history. One reason is that studying the history of our own country deepens our understanding about the thoughts and behaviour of past generations, which inspires us to relate our current life to the past, enhancing our sense of belonging to the nation and strengthening our cultural identity. Furthermore, children would feel proud of their culture and would have a sense of ownership, thus becoming concerned about the environment. They may therefore be willing to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours such as taking public transport, recycling waste and not throwing trash in public places, thus improving the environment.

Nevertheless, learning about the history of other countries has its own benefits. Meanwhile, children have not developed sound moral values, they may not be able to differentiate right and wrong. It is likely for them to copy those misbehaviours, making them more prone to committing crimes than in the past.
