The University of Manchester China Centre
Dear Students, Alumni, and Friends,
As the morning sun heralds the dawn, we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025.
In 2024, through the series of activities celebrating the University of Manchester's 200th anniversary, we have reflected on and celebrated two centuries of exceptional academic achievements and profound global influence by the University. Meanwhile, the China Centre has continuously innovated and presented a variety of splendid events. From the spectacular opening of the "Manchester Purple" lighting up Shanghai at the beginning of the year, to a series of high-level visits to China, scientific research cooperation, and alumni events throughout the year, we have won several outstanding awards for our excellent transnational educational services, and achieved new breakthroughs in sustainable development impact and Sino-British education cooperation and exchanges.
In 2025, "reimagine" will be the keyword leading us forward: to rethink and imagine with innovative thinking and perspectives. We aim to break traditional constraints and create a better future by applying these concepts to teaching, research, and social services. Let innovation be the constant pursuit of Manchester spirit, and let reshaping be the label of our era.
For two centuries, the University of Manchester has always adhered to the spirit of "innovation and reshaping," constantly breaking the boundaries of education and leading the trends in global education and research. From the first artificial nuclear reaction to the revolutionary discovery of graphene materials, from nurturing Nobel Prize winners to promoting global civic awareness, the University of Manchester has been forging ahead on the path of innovation. As we embark on our journey towards the third century, standing at a new starting point, we face unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The surging wave of digitalization and the once-in-a-century major changes facing the world require us not only to inherit the glorious traditions of the University but also to courageously reshape ourselves with an innovative attitude to meet the future.
In the new year, let us join hands, embrace change with a more open mindset, and encourage innovation. Let us explore the unknown in academic research, stimulate potential in educational practices, and promote win-win outcomes in international cooperation."Global challenges, Manchester Solutions": With the wisdom of the University, we shall address global challenges and contribute to building a better world.
We will continue to deepen cooperation with various sectors in China, not only in the field of education but also in research cooperation, cultural exchange, and social responsibility. By collaborating with top Chinese universities and research institutions, we will jointly explore innovative paths across cultures and disciplines, cultivating more outstanding global talents with international vision and responsibilities.
Finally, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every alum - It is your wisdom and efforts that have shaped today's UoM, and it is your participation and dedication that give us the confidence to face future challenges. As the new year begins, let us write a new chapter for the University of Manchester with even greater enthusiasm, making positive impact and driving societal changes.
May the University of Manchester continued glory, and wish you all a properous and healthy 2025!
