The SWUPL CLUB Successfully Held the First Online Sharing Session

of  the 2024 Annual Study in the U.S. Series

On June 1, 2024, the SWUPL CLUB of America (The SWUPL CLUB) successfully held the first session of the 2024 Study in the U.S. Online Series. The theme of this session was "Choosing a Law School in the United States and Tips on Studying, Living, and Traveling." The event was introduced by Ms. Hong Zhang (Class of 2006, Graduate), the SWUPL CLUB Secretary General, and Ms. Jiaxuan Fu (Class of 2017, Undergraduate), who hosted the event. The guest speakers were Mr. Zhibiao Peng (Class of 2008, Undergraduate) and Ms. Runhong Song (Class of 2019, Undergraduate). About 40 people attended the event, which focused on the main issues designed by the host and included an interactive Q&A session. The discussions were lively and very beneficial for all participants.

Ms. Zhang began by briefly introducing the background and significance of this event, noting that studying law in the U.S. requires not only academic preparation but also an adaptation to the U.S. lifestyle and cultural differences. Following this, Ms. Fu detailed the event's schedule and invited the guest speakers to share their experiences.

Mr. Peng and Ms. Song, drawing from their personal experiences, shared their strategies for studying and overcoming challenges at law schools in the U.S. They emphasized the importance of choosing the right school and suggested that students consider factors such as school ranking, location, tuition fees, and scholarships. Ms. Song focused on practical aspects of living and traveling in the U.S., including how to rent an apartment, handle banking, and enjoy the natural scenery and cultural attractions across the country.

During the interactive Q&A session, participants eagerly asked questions about exam preparation, scholarship application tips, and post-graduation career planning. The speakers patiently answered and provided many practical suggestions.

The Secretariat of the SWUPL CLUB will continue to share experiences on job searching and bar exams in the U.S. Please stay tuned for more updates.

A WeChat group for the year 2024 has already been established. Those who have confirmed their plans to study in the U.S. in 2024 but missed the online event are welcome to join (don't hesitate to contact the WeChat: SWUPLUS to join the group).

To enhance interaction and effectiveness based on current inquiries, the SWUPL CLUB has established a tailored event aimed at helping the younger alumni Study in the U.S.

By School Grouping: Based on alumni inquiries, specific sharing groups have been established for schools with a higher number of alumni, such as New York University (NYU) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

"Study Abroad Mentor Series" (in planning): This series will provide one-on-one mentoring from alumni who have graduated from U.S. institutions to those about to study in the U.S., aiming to help new students better adapt to studying and living in the U.S., thus ensuring successful completion of their studies and achieving their career goals. The mentor team is currently being assembled, so please stay tuned.

Thank you all for participating in the event, for the alumni's sharing, for the volunteers' support, and the alumni law firm and enterprises' sponsorship of the event.
