Ambassador Xiao Qian Attends Farewell Event for Giant Pandas in Adelaide
On November 14, Ambassador Xiao Qian attended the farewell reception for giant pandas "Wang Wang" and "Fu Ni" in Adelaide. The event was attended by Consul General Li Dong of China in Adelaide, South Australia's Governor's representative, Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs Zoe Bettison, several federal and state parliamentarians, the Mayor, a representative from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in South Australia, and over 150 other guests from various sectors.
Ambassador Xiao expressed that giant pandas have become a symbol of the deep friendship between the Chinese and Australian people. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and President Xi Jinping's state visit to Australia. In June, Premier Li Qiang visited Australia. He expressed hope that Adelaide will remain a welcoming home for giant pandas. As planned, two young and lively pandas, "Xing Qiu" and "Yi Lan," will arrive in Australia by the end of the year, continuing the heartwarming story of cultural exchange and wildlife conservation between the two nations. We hope to use this opportunity to further friendship and cooperation, fostering the steady growth of the China-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the greater benefit of both peoples.
Minister Bettison noted the widespread appeal and influence of giant pandas in Australia. She extended heartfelt wishes to "Wang Wang" and "Fu Ni" as they prepare to return home, expressed gratitude to China for continuing the panda conservation program, and looked forward to the new pair of pandas writing a new chapter in Australia-China friendship.
