基本科学指标数据库(Essential Science Indicators,简称ESI) 是由科睿唯安(Clarivate Analytics,原汤森路透知识产权与科技事业部)在汇集和分析Web of Science(SCI/SSCI)所收录的全球学术文献及其所引用的参考文献的基础上建立起来的计量分析数据库;由著名学术信息出版机构美国科技信息所(ISI)于2001年推出,作为衡量科学研究绩效、跟踪科学发展趋势的基本分析评价工具。

它着重从文献引用角度反映学术影响力,是评价学科发展、科研能力和学术声誉的重要标志,现已成为世界范围内普遍用以评价学术机构、国家/地区及学者国际学术水平和影响力的评价指标工具,教育部在2012年学科评估指标中首次引进ESI论文。ESI从引文分析的角度,将全部科学分为22个专业领域,分别对国家、研究机构、期刊、论文以及科学家进行统计分析和排序,数据更新周期为2个月。
