We are seeking creative, passionate and independent thinkers to join us as postdocs. We are offering projects at the intersection of basic research and technology development (see below). Applications are encouraged from talented and motivated individuals who have a Ph.D. or are nearing completion of their Ph.D. with experience in cell biology, structural biochemistry or protein engineering. Top candidates will have a strong track record of research productivity, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for basic research or technology development and a willingness to work as a leading part of a team with other lab members.
The following projects require your expertise:
1) Engineering nanobodies that rewire intracellular biology for therapeutic benefit (various projects) e.g. nanobodies that alter protein folding or degradation capacity and their characterization in model systems of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Our goal is to develop nanobodies into mRNA-deliverable effectors of protein homeostasis.
Preferred expertise:
cell biology (mammalian cell culture, genome-wide CRISPR screens, human iPS cell differentiation, imaging)
biochemistry (protein purification expression and purification in bacteria / mammalian cells)
protein engineering (phage / ribosome / yeast display, antibody engineering, etc.)
2) Dissecting the molecular machinery controlling membrane protein insertion, assembly and quality control at the human endoplasmic reticulum. Studying the folding, assembly and quality control of model membrane proteins in human cell culture and using reconstituted in vitro ER membrane insertion systems.
Preferred expertise:
biochemistry (protein expression and purification in bacteria / mammalian cells)
cell biology (mammalian cell culture, genome-wide CRISPR screens etc.)
structural biology (cryo-EM data collection and data analysis)
