Job Purpose
This is part of the UofG internships Programme. This role will be for 9 months, working 14 hours per week.
The Role
Reporting to the Chinese Social Media Officer, the Social Media Assistant will support student recruitment and student engagement through the creation of digital content for the University of Glasgow Chinese channels ( eg Weibo, Bilibili etc.), as well as assisting with channel management and audience engagement.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Content Creation: Work closely with the social media officer to develop engaging content for our Chinese social media channels. This includes showcasing the broad spectrum of work at the University of Glasgow, from research to student life. Create peer-to-peer content to give prospective students in China an authentic view of student life. This content will include creating timely, reactive content that engages with real conversations on social media.
2. New Channel Support: Help develop and implement a bespoke strategy for launching and managing a new UofG account on Little Red Book (Xiaohongshu), and create engaging content focusing on lifestyle, academic insights, campus experiences, etc., that resonate with the platform's audience to enhance the university's presence and reach on our new channel.
3. Community Engagement: Engage with the university's social media audience by responding to comments, messages, and mentions to foster a sense of community, improve customer service, and aid in student recruitment.
4. Horizon Scanning: Stay updated on Chinese social media trends, popular culture, and current events to identify and showcase the university's highlights tailored to the preferences of the Chinese audience.
5. Social Scheduling: Work closely with the Social Media Officer on content planning and assist with scheduling content and campaigns.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with the student communications and social media team and other departments across the university to create content and share knowledge for a cohesive approach to social media.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Skills and Experience
The essential criteria for the role are:
E1. Fluent in Mandarin
E2. Experience in creating digital content and publishing on social media (either for personal or business channels, including clubs and societies)
E3. Experience in creating video content
E4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people from different backgrounds
E5. Excellent attention to detail with sound proofreading skills
E6. Excellent communication skills, able to present ideas clearly, in both written and video format
E7. Evidence of having an enthusiastic and creative approach to tasks and projects
The desirable criteria for the role are:
D1. Experience using video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro
D2. Experience using photo editing software such as Canvas
D3. Active social media user with a keen interest in exploring new social trends
D4. Experience working flexibly in a small and collaborative team
