• Chengdu - a city that many of our family and friends back home had probably not heard of before we moved here, but it is truly huge. Greater Chengdu boasts as much as 22 million people by some estimates. But as we know, there are many big, big cities in China.
• But which comes out on top?
This is a little complicated, as some cities are their own municipal provinces (Shanghai and Beijing for example) and then you have cities that grow so large they break away from their province, and become a municipality (like Chongqing). So how big is Chengdu now officially? New rankings are in.

Interesting Facts
• 94% of China's population lives in the eastern half of the country. 1.4 billion people live in the country that stretches across 3.7 million square miles (9.6 million km²). However, as seen in the map below, 94% of the Chinese population lives east of the Heihe-Tengchong line, which is only 43% of the country’s area.
• Shanghai is the densest city, with 16,982 people per square kilometer.
In the interior of the country, the Sichuan Basin is clearly visible, anchored by the cities of Chongqing and Chengdu.
• Also visible is North China plain, a continuous blanket of density stretching from Beijing down towards Shanghai. This area is one of China's most important agricultural regions'.
